What does it mean to be “free”? Freedom is where you have the ability to do whatever you want without the restraint of others. Achieving freedom was the desire and goal that colonists and revolutionaries pursued throughout the Revolutionary War and many believed was a god given right to man. But the desire for freedom came with its and struggles and freedom did not come easy. In fact, many were not willing to fight for freedom due their fear of British government and their rule over the colonies.
Shakespeare Behind Bars the documentary, directed by Hank Rogerson, showed to be very rhetorically effective because of the way Rogerson portrayed the play and the emotions of the inmates. By picking the year that Luther Luckett Prison does the play “The Tempest”, which is about temptations coming in and how the characters overcome them, that adds to the effectiveness because throughout the documentary the inmates’ desire for redemption. By adding this extra flare, you discover more about the inmates and how they connect with the play and the characters they portray. Also, by giving the audience a chance to understand the backstories of the inmates, this starts a sudden attraction to the inmates and an emotional attachment because they want

In President Bush’s address to the nation, he uses many rhetorical devices. A rhetorical device is a literary device that is used to persuade the audience to support the argument made. Bush’s address uses Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. They were invented and studied by the famous greek philosopher Aristotle. Ethos appeals to credibility, Logos appeals to logic or reason, and Pathos appeals to the audience’s feelings.
Rhetorical appeals reveal the hidden message the character is trying to convey. The rhetoric also highlights the character’s emotions, feelings and the significance of the text. It allows readers to gain a better understanding of the characters. Arthur Miler, the author of The Crucible, highlights the importance of mass hysteria through rhetorical appeals. John Proctor, the tragic hero is a loyal, honest, and kind-hearted individual.
Rhetorical strategies are a variety of parts that make up an essay. The strategies include everything from explaining a process, to structure of writing. Whether the author 's purpose is to entertain, inform, or persuade, ultimately these strategies will strengthen not only the author’s purpose, but also the writing itsef. Typically when authors use these strategies, they are very precise to how they use them, and when deeply analysing a piece of writing, this is very clear. In Bell Hooks’ “Understanding Patriarchy”, she used rhetorical strategies to convey her purpose.
King Henry uses Aristotle’s three Appeals to assuage the fears of his soldiers and to inspire unyielding confidence and passion. Two nights before a great battle to retake France’s land, King Henry of England disguises himself as a common soldier to discover the sentiment of his army. However, outnumbered and afraid of dying, the men tells the disguised King Henry about their reluctance to head into battle. Consequently, the next day, King Henry decides to raise his army’s morale through a speech. King Henry begins by appealing to the men’s sense of logic, using logos to argue that no more men are needed for the battle: “If we are mark’d to die, we are enow / to do our country loss; and if to live, / the fewer men, the greater share of honour”

Imprisonment and constraint, can be felt in many different scenarios in the passage from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. However, we get these two feelings with a girl who is portrayed as an orphan in this chapter. When being an orphan many feelings can run through a person’s mind, for example abandonment and not feeling loved, or being/feeling trapped. The feeling of imprisonment and constraint in this chapter is expressed through the use of imagery and diction. Imagery is viewed in this chapter in a variety of sentences.

In our freshman year of high school ninth graders must learn the many things in each of their subjects. In english class students are required to learn William "Bard of Avon" Shakespeare’s works. With Shakespeare 's works of literature and drama being 400 years old it’s expected that many people don’t want Barb’s works to be taught in the curriculum in schools. Shakespeare 's works should not be taught to students in schools because it’s difficult for students to understand, his work is not culturally diverse, and is outdated for today’s students. First, it’s difficult for many students to understand Shakespeare’s dialogue.

When a text has visuals, is easy to comprehend, and is authentic, it creates a more enjoyable experience for students to read. In the twenty-first century, the plays of William Shakespeare may at first appear dated and irrelevant: they use archaic language, are set in the age of Kings and Queens, and the Kingdom of England. However, it would be plainly mistaken to construe that Shakespeare’s works do not still remain integral to a twenty-first century society. Shakespeare’s plays gave the words and expressions one uses every day, revolutionized the art of theater as it was known, and forewarned about issues that would unknowingly still apply centuries later. Therefore, Shakespeare has had a profound effect on our lives by enriching our language and culture, as well as providing ideas that would still apply five centuries later, and it would thus behoove us to learn from his works and life.
