Drugs such as alcohol have an effect on all users, regardless of their age; however, alcohol has an especially harmful effect on teens since their bodies are still developing. Studies have shown that alcohol has numerous negative effects on a teen’s body and mental health; for example, a study conducted by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention stated that “alcohol consumption affects the brain’s frontal lobes, which is essential for functions such as emotional regulations, planning, and organization” (“Age”). Teens already have high emotions and difficulties planning and organizing; alcohol will only enhance teens’ struggle. The Center of Disease Control and Prevention also found that alcohol consumption at a young age can potentially cause chronic problems such as memory loss, depression, suicidal thoughts, and poor decision making (“Age”). Teens have a difficult enough time making decisions and organizing their lives, but adding alcohol to the mix will only make matters worse; their bodies are still developing, and they are still learning to be adults.
In nowaday’s society, people may mistakenly blame notorious drug abuse on drug trafficking; however, there are dozens of factors influncing this phenomenon such as gender, peer pressure, age, stress and quality of parenting. Regardless of reasons, severe issues have arisen as a result of addiction. The manifest consequence is the alterability of drugs on thinking and judgment of a person, leading to numerous health risks. As a glaring public health problem, it causes millions of serious physical illnesses and infectious diseases through immunodeficiency including cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancer, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and lung cancer which can further harm unborn child. Many famous people are addicted to drugs, they are public figures, their behavior is widely attention, if they are taking drugs, this can cause a lot of adverse effects. Some people think education and imprisonment does not reduce the use of drugs, so they suggest the legalization of drugs. I don't agree with this view. Now there are many new drugs, the medicinal properties of these drugs may be lower than the previous drug, but still great harm to human body. More teenagers try drugs, for the development of society and human health, so drugs must be banned.
There are many different opinions and attributes on drugs and there are many different policies out in our societies. The images and the reputation of drugs is pouring in every corner we look, from radios to many different popular movies and what that does is convey a sense of evil and brutality that reveals immediate and brutal retaliation. The war on drugs is something that has a huge impact on society, it’s something that is extremely important especially when it comes to communities, broken families, the impact that the drug itself has on people’s lives and the actual destroyed community itself. War on drugs is an issue that isn’t only about the drugs but also about the growth of inequality between the rich and the poor, the black and the
Drug use is an issue that affects individuals, families, communities, and all levels of government, not just in the United States, but also around the world (Hart, Ksir 2015). According to Carl Hart and Charles Ksir, the word “drug” can be defined as “any substance, natural or artificial, other than food, that by its chemical nature alters structure or function in the living organism” (Hart, Ksir 2015). As human beings, one is naturally curious about the different things in society and may have an urge to experience those things themselves. In regard to illegal drugs, individuals may want to experience it and the effect on it may have eon them since it varies by each individual. In the United States, the drug rate is extreme and is increasingly
The image that people have on the topic of “drug addiction” is one that is full of stereotypes. In William Burroughs’s “The Junky’s Christmas” it is evident to the viewers that a drug addict, or what Burroughs’s refers to as “junkies”, go to extremes in order to fulfill their needs to feel the ultimate ecstasy. Similarly, in the propaganda film “Reefer Madness”, viewers are informed on the side effects of taking drugs which are told to extremes. Both videos clearly express means that are based solely on stereotypes linked to being a drug addict. Even thought these videos seem to be on the same page regarding drug addiction, there are many differences.
Television Violence Television has had an enormous contribution on how the world has changed and how we perceive it. There are hundreds of channels and a vast variety of genres to choose from in just a click of a button; however what you choose can really have an effect on you. People believe that television violence has a negative effect on society because it promotes violence. No doubt, I can agree with what these people believe, that television violence does have an effect on society because people will become more vulnerable, children will become more liable and people will become more aggressive involuntarily. Vulnerability is something that we should not show, as it is a sign of weakness.
This article has been presented by “EUGENE V BERESIN, M.D.” (Director of Children and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital). The notion of developing psychotic symptoms, is what persuades many to believe that cannabis may play a factor in increasing the risk of developing schizophrenia - due to its effects of an individuals mental state when the drug is presented in their system. Speculations around the illicit use of cannabis, has always been associated with adverse consequences. Recent studies have produced controversy about whether cannabis in heavy use can cause irreversible brain damage, particularly in adolescents and thus, whether a chronic psychosis could be a result of brain changes caused by cannabis (DeLisi, 2008). However, based off of existing evidence, this controversial theory of whether or not cannabis can cause irreversible brain damage, proves to be wrong. As a
The television clicks on and commercials consume it. It’s dark face attracting a child's attention with it's sudden burst of colors. Their dark eyes fill with the remnants of thoughts of things that can harm them. There are many things that harm children due to children's advertising but we're only going to be focusing on three. The first is how advertising has allowed diseases like obesity and diabetes to get out of hand, the second is that mental disabilities like depression and anger issues are higher due to the advertising on television, the third thing is how advertisements cause children to make bad decisions for their health like using alcohol and smoking.
Many of the portrayals are unreliable and incorrect, and they often promote negative stigma. While some may be consistent with psychiatric definitions, most representations are still misleading and can give the wrong idea about mental illness. These representations can be very harmful for people who have been diagnosed with a mental disorder and are battling stigma every day. Mental health representation in the mass media is usually incorrect and often promotes negative stigma, making the lives of people living with mental illness that much more difficult. The media must improve these portrayals to avoid spreading false information and harmful
