In the book A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, my favorite character is Owen Meany. I admire the way he cares about his friends and is willing to do anything for them. He is concerned about John coming to Vietnam. To avoid this, Owen cuts off John’s finger so he cannot go into the war. This would be difficult, but he loves John and wants to protect him.
23). In conclusion Atticus’s decision to defend Tom, although dangerous, was wise on his part as described in the last paragraph. His family was put in danger, but ultimately was the right thing to do. Not only did he keep his conscience intact but he also possibly saved other black men and women from hate deaths and hate crimes. The sacrifices that he made was the right thing to do, and nothing can change
In the book The Outsiders written by S.E Hinton has been and still is a favorite among its readers, the book focuses on group identity and individuality. I connected with the book because it shows how close friends can be, they can be almost family. Over time the character Johnny has developed, he became more brave and was willing to kill someone to save his friends and himself, he is intuitive, selfless and optimistic. Johnny thinks that there is still good in the world no matter what happens. Johnny often feels afraid, he doesn’t want to go home because of what his parents do to him.
Last Eliezer from” Night ”which is a book that tells a life story of someone in the Holocaust Genocide, shows courage because he is in a life threating situation and stays strong the whole way through. In the novel” Fahrenheit 451” Guy Montag is one of te main characters in the book, he shows acts of courage. He is courageous because he takes banned books and tries to bring them back to society to show everyone even though is illegal. Its may not seem like a big deal but he is standing up for what he believes in even
(Add background on the book, and bring up the case of Tom Robinson) Many people might not agree to Atticus’s actions as he accepted Tom Robinson's case. Atticus knew the consequences, and the outcome of the whole situation, but he still stayed faithful to his high morals and values. Despite drawbacks, Atticus Finch was wise to defend Tom Robinson. (Make a Claim: Because he yada yada yada) Atticus was wise to defend Tom Robinson in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. He was brave enough to take the case knowing that everyone wouldn't agree with him.
As part of human nature, we’re accustomed to following a set of rules to have an orderly and peaceful lifestyle. Usually, if those rules are disobeyed, destruction and disorder are bound to come our way. This act is prevalent in two stories, Beowulf and The Lord of the Flies, that were written centuries apart, but yet the concept of how ignoring rules can lead to the downfall of societies is common in both. Usually, a well-built society derives from a strong leader who has the characteristics of guiding people to do the right actions. Such an example would be Beowulf who is viewed as a God-like hero and is highly respected.
Though Jefferson, a man wrongly convicted of murder and sentenced to death in A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines, has to stay strong, two men stand out as strong or even stronger, Grant Wiggins and Reverend Ambrose. The two men are some of the best leaders in the community but they have different strengths, and Grant is better able to help Jefferson meet his unfortunate death. Throughout A Lesson Before Dying Reverend Ambrose and Grant Wiggins are some of the best leaders in the Quarter. The Reverend is a leader to all that are in pain or otherwise troubled. According to the Reverend, “I know my people.
Due to the high intelligence level of human, we often think that we know what are the consequences of our action, and do things the way we like without knowing the real impact that we cause. In the essay “Thinking Like A Mountain”, Aldo Leopold tell us how important is sustainability. As a boy Aldo Leopold thought by killing the predators on the mountain, there will be more deer to hunt which is an advantage for the hunters; however, he did not know that his action could affect the sustainability of the mountain. Through his life experience, he then realize sustainability importance, all species have inherent value in the biosphere, humans have no right to reduce this richness and diversity only to satisfy our needs, from the perspective of
Atticus taught me many things about being courageous. For example, he knew he probably wasn’t going to win the Tom Robinson case yet he still gave it his all which showed his loyalty towards Tom. His children learned something from a great man like what color you are doesn’t define who you truly are inside. Lee, Harper. To Kill a Mockingbird.
“A hero is someone who given his life to something bigger than oneself.” (Campbell) Beowulf is the Anglo Saxons. Beowulf most courageous warrior ever. He goes on quest and journeys and chose his path of being a hero and to kill monsters who ever tries to hurt Beowulf people. He keep his promises what the people ask him to do he will do it and serve his people. Beowulf is an epic hero because he is significant and glorified, risk deaths and he is ethical.
In chapters 14 and 15, John Krakauer attempts to prove that Chris McCandless did not die because he was suicidal, but rather he died because of an accident and his stubborn personality, by telling Krakauer’s own personal story to make connections to Chris so that the readers can trust him with his judgements about Chris and they can have a better understanding of Chris’s characteristics. The author starts chapter 14 by inserting his personal life experience as a young man to make connections to Chris and to show the readers their similarities so that they can rely on his judgement. Just like Chris, Krakauer was a stubborn, determined, a loner, and an outdoorsman. As a young man, Krakauer was a risk taker. He challenged himself to climb Devils
Beowulf is a good ruler for his people. He will fight for them even when they aren’t with him. I believe he’s a good fit for modern times because we need a good ruler like him now-a-days. Someone who is not selfish and not afraid to do something that’s terrifying. Beowulf states, “That I, alone and with the help of my men, May purge all evil from this hall” (“from Beowulf” ln.
These reviews I have seen are mostly positive. One of the reviews says it should be read and loved by everyone. (Jack London’s Naturalism) The review says this because the story shows a odd but lovable hero that in the end if he believes and tries his best in the end he can achieve his goals and live the life he would want to live. Another review says that it is really good but is not for young animal lovers. (Call of the Wild- Book Review) It says this because in the story the hero has to do some bad things like rip out other dogs or even humans jugulars to save himself or some of his new found friends, but in the end the review still says it is a really good book.
HE helped train others and helped them be better at their jobs. No one likes to think of killing as a job, but our military is trained to kill in order to protect this nation. Kyle said in his book that he was not trying to make a name for himself. He said that killing people at long range was his military mission. Because he was so good at it, many lives were saved and Iraq is a safer place.
