This story begins In a rainforest in India where Rikki was caught in a terrible flash flood and nearly drowned. Rikki was rescued by a kind English family who nursed him back to health. Rikki quickly felt love for this family. When the mongoose was back to full health he took a walk through the garden. He found Darzee the bird who cried out, “One of my babies fell out of the nest and Nag ate him. Who is Nag?”(18) Rikki replied. Rikki’s question was answered when two dark cobras came slithering out of the tall grass.
