The road safety audit report mainly aims to present a concise report on aspects of the project involving road safety issues, and to recommend corrective actions. Recommendations suggest solutions, but do not elaborate on the method of solving the problem. The designer remains in charge of determining the solution. The road safety issues identified should be enumerated in a logical sequence with a numbering system that facilitates reference to follow-up reports. The items may be listed in the order stated in the appropriate checklist (see appendix E of this guideline). However, this listing may not consistently provide the greatest clarity. For instance, the occurrence of distinct intersections or interchanges may be best discussed in turn. …show more content…

If an issue from earlier road safety audit reports has been addressed and the client has decided on the concern, then such problem should no longer be brought up in subsequent audits. The report should only contain consequential matters. Irrelevant issues such as amenity or aesthetics, should be excluded from the report. Unless relevant to road safety, issues concerning traffic capacity should not be discussed. A simple ranking system may be established to help the designers and client assess the bearing of the issue. Road safety audit reports tend to be perceived negatively as they typically contain only problems. Meanwhile, positive design elements need not be stated in the report, but an excellent element that enhances road safety can be mentioned, if appropriate. Issues to be considered in a safety audit Safety aspects to be considered during an audit are listed in the high-level checklists supplied in appendix D. Every phase of the review has a corresponding checklist. The checklists, which are only supplemental and not exhaustive, should not be expected to replace a thorough and complete inspection of road safety issues. Other publications such as the Austroads Guide to road safety, part 6: Road safety audit include elaborate checklists. Meanwhile, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) publications Pedestrian road safety audit guidelines and prompt lists and Bicycle …show more content…

Consequently, the designer shall act on the approved modifications. To facilitate decision making, the client may request for the input of the safety engineer. Decision tracking is a vital component of the road safety audit process. After the designer, safety engineer and client (see example in Appendix B) enumerate the set of recommendations, a tracking table is integrated into the report format . The decision tracking table contains the designer’s response, the client’s decision and the action taken. The report, which states the designer’s response to the client and the client’s decision on every recommendation, shall be submitted to the team leader of the audit team as a supplement to the important feedback loop. The team leader distributed the report to the team members. Integral to the process, the feedback loop allows safety auditors to evaluate the appropriateness of their recommendations. The client may request for a further road safety review in case major modifications
