Future of Robotic Technology in Neurosurgery
In the expanding medical field, surgeries have become increasingly computerized as innovative technology are performing medical procedures independently. Researchers are beginning to develop new forms of surgical technology which would allow surgeons to improve their overall precision and efficiency in the operating room, having an overall positive effect in the future. Not only will these robotic technology be successful in surgery, but they will be effective in diagnosing neurological diseases and disorders. (Munz). Thus, with robotic technology like the cyberknife, surgeons have to do less work in operating rooms, lessening the amount of time the patient is open and making a brain surgery more effective. This makes surgeries more precise and accurate, eliminating the risk of normal human error.
In additional to robotic technology used in brain surgery, new forms of technology are being used before the surgical stage in dealing with a patient. In detail, researchers are developing new forms of medical imaging technologies which are used for diagnosing patients. Unlike older forms of medical imaging technology, such as an X-Ray and CT scan, new technology allows doctors to view anatomical structures of patients in the third dimension, enabling them to easily identify what is wrong with their patient. More specifically, surgeons can print three dimensional organs and they can even try out different surgical techniques on organs before they perform the operation (Perkins). For example, imagine a surgeon has a patient with an aneurysm. Then, the doctor can print the aneurysm in the third dimension to produce the best course of action for treating the aneurysm.
