Hugh Reamer p.5 Mr.Birk English 11 7 October 2016 Witch, Please. The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a suspenseful story about witchcraft. Several of the characters are conniving and malicious because they’re accusing others of compacting with satan, Abigail Williams is a prime example of malevolence. I chose to write about Abigail because she is continuously dishonest and does not come clean even when given multiple opportunities. She shows just how malicious she is by trying to kill off Elizabeth for Proctors love.
Not only are they both very important, they are also rude and manipulative. They are alike in some ways and at the same time they have some differences. Abigail William in The Crucible by Arthur Miller, is a teenage girl. She is practically the villain in The Crucible, she's a liar, manipulative, and selfish. “She has an eerie sense of how to manipulate others and gain control over them.” Abigail William was a big deal, not only did she have an affair with an older man who was married, she also accused three innocent women of being witches.
One common question about The Crucible is how Abigail Williams is the most evil force in the play. It is shocking when a girl talks back to authority out of disagreement, but few go as far as Abigail Williams. While she may only be 11 years old, her manipulative and vengeful personality allows her fool her Uncle and later turns a whole town against each other. She is really a master of manipulation and trickery, and she gets herself into affairs without punishment and has threaten all who oppose here. Abigail really is the devil in human form.
Throughout the entire play of the Crucible, Abigail Williams portrayed the characteristic of a selfish teenager whose actions were only to help herself. She accused many innocent people of committing the crime of witchcraft, which nineteen were later hung. Her entire motive was to get revenge on Elizabeth Proctor so she could have Elizabeth’s husband, John Proctor, all to herself. “She blacken my name in the village! She is telling lies about me!
I think this personally because she is selfish and is willing the tear apart a family just for her own happiness. I also think she causes most of the trouble. She is a very miserable character, and she isn’t afraid to make everyone else around her suffer also. She sets Mrs. Proctor up, and stabbed herself with a needle to make it look like Elizabeth was casting spells on her to get her in trouble when she is questioned about being a witch. She does this because her and John Proctor committed adultery and Abigail is still in love with John but he doesn’t feel the same way about her.
Even Reverend Hale, who is from another town knows of Rebecca’s good deeds. These two women are among the first to be accused of witchcraft and sent to jail. Abigail is a selfish girl who only looks out for herself and her needs. She had an affair with John Proctor and drank blood to try and get rid of his wife Elizabeth. Abigail is easily one of the most cruel people in Salem, stopping at nothing to get what she wants.
She accused innocent people of being involved in witchcraft. When an innocent man was hanged it brought her joy. Abigail was a wicked heartless and evil woman. Abigail’s actions led to the execution of 19 innocent people. She watched these men die knowing they were innocent, yet she wanted John’s wife out of the picture so badly that she was willing to do
In The Crucible, when people have grudges towards someone, then they do stupid things to get the person they grudge on in trouble. As we know, Proctor had an affair with Abigail but he’s ashamed of it and told Abigail that he is done with her. That makes Abigail mad, so, her cruelty shows up when she charges Elizabeth, Proctor’s wife, of using witchcraft and being a witch. Most of the people in The Crucible are lying and if not to others then to themselves. Abigail lies about her ability to see spirits and so do many of the other girls by following her lies.
Knowing that the punishment for their behavior will be severe, the girls claim that they were possessed by the spirits. Betty ends up being in a coma and there is no explanation to why. Reading act one, Abigail is most responsible for causing all of the witchcraft. Claim: Abigail is to be held responsible for alarming Salem about witchcraft. Arthur Miller describes Abigail as a careless person and would do anything to protect herself.
She was in an affair with John Proctor while Elizabeth, his wife, was sick. Abigail was psychotic, considering that she wanted to kill John’s wife so that she could be with him. This was one of the ways that the whole mess of witch trials started. “BETTY: You did, you did! You drank a charm to kill John Proctor 's wife!
