Role Of Pakistani Media Regarding Blasphemy Cases Projection In Pakistan

Abstract
Allegation of blasphemy in our society face violent reactions by masses and it’s generally due to lack to knowledge about legislation related to blasphemy in the country. In Pakistan since the introduction of blasphemy law in country from 1986 to 2010 over 1274 individuals were charged with blasphemy allegation and alarming over 51 were killed before their judicial trial was completed or they were convicted by courts
Media is regarded as fourth pillar of state and has a huge responsibility keeping an eye on injustice and wrong doing in society. It is also responsibility of media to draw attention of government towards any injustice in society.

Media as an institution has lot of responsibilities which include being watchdog on the policies of government and also on the social issues of society. For the development of any society it is very important that its media should work freely and without any pressure or prejudice. Quaid-e-Azam founder of our nation once said “I expect press to be fearless”. It shows that freedom of press and independent working is not a new phenomenon even for our country.In the recent past alleged blasphemy cases are started to appear on the media quite rapidly, in last decade many incident happened in which masses turn into mob and try to kill or most of time even kill the alleged blasphemers. In Pakistan blasphemy means “Use of derogatory remarks, spoken, written, directly or indirectly, etc. defiles the name of Muhammad (SAWW)”. Pakistan is an Islamic state with over 95% population Muslim. Pakistan has several sections of its penal code which deal with blasphemy incident in Pakistan from punishment from imprisonment to death penalty and fine.
