Lastly the most important aspect of his heroism is that he isn’t a textbook hero, unlike Hercules, Odysseus embraces his flaws and mortality which makes him stronger. One key thing that aids his journey is, Odysseus does not escape his struggle and immerse himself in feasting and partying, he experiences only what he is supposed to in addition to nothing that isn’t relevant. Odysseus is able to improve himself, ultimately
This would be difficult, but he loves John and wants to protect him. Another thing I enjoy is Owen’s jokes and humor. He constantly lightens the mood with his clever remarks. I also love how confident he is. Although he is rather short and has a distinct voice, he is never insecure or bothered by it.
Ulysses has many admirable traits that can be seen throughout the entire story. Ulysses was best known for his wisdom. He was a strong man, but he was more cunning than he was physically strong. Ulysses not having as much physical strength as wisdom did not prove much of an issue throughout the epic. He was a self-made and self-assured man who loved his family and his people.
He risked his life to help others, even though the issue had nothing to do with him. Honestly, Beowulf fits the basic profile of a hero in today’s civilization. He shows his courage and bravery. Beowulf shows that he has compassion for others no matter who they are or where they came from. He is selfless when it comes to risking his own life for people he may not know, such as any hero should.
Odysseus is a perfect hero and has all of the characteristics it takes to be one. He cares about his men deeply and wants the best for his men. One thing that makes him special is his mind, he is very clever in getting home. The main point, is that he was able to return home against all odds. All of these characteristics made him be idealized and not just
History is full of heros but, what makes these people heros. Is it their bravery on the battlefield, the honor they give to their family, or their intelligence. Much of this is true in the time of ancient Greece. The importance of relationships between father and son are presented in The Odyssey with the ancient Greek values of home and respect of elders. For instance, Odysseus and Telemachus’ love for eachother is shown through their long voyages to find one another which reunites them in the end. Without their strong father-son relationship, they may not have had the desire to search for one another which would have led to a significantly different plot and end result. In the end, Telemachus’ joy is greatly expressed when he discovers Odysseus which further proves their undeniable friendship and bond. Another example of a strong father and son relationship is presented by the love Poseidon and Polyphemus have towards each other.
