There are many common benefits of work-life balance. According to (Joshi et al., 2002), the benefits of work-life balance are child care, work hours and leaves for example paternity leaves. For work hours, there is legal limit of non-exempt workers in America from working more than 40 hours a week but there is no such of restriction for
WORK LIFE BALANCE I am just wondered if the work / life balance is possible? Does it look like a balance between working life is just one thing we need to achieve? If your answer is yes to one of these questions, you are not alone. Defining the balance of life is a mental and physical effort as the same work and effort that you spent for the rest of your life. It is a balanced relationship between time spent on work and activities related to work and time spent in structuring your lifestyle, like friends, family and leisure tasks.
Abstract The interrelation of work and commitments in life and their impact on the other is Work Life Balance. While trying their level best to maximise the efforts to achieve the set goals, academicians and others struggle to strike a balance between their work and other family and societal responsibilities. An ideal work life balance is a myth. Everyone being different, having different circumstances to deal with setting or establishing perfect way to have a work life balance is not the objective of this paper. Previous research on this topic has proven that men and women both prefer to work in organizations that support a healthy work life balance.
"Our lives are becoming increasingly complex with every passing year. We have more choices, more opportunities and more demands placed on us," says Clutterbuck, whose latest book is ‘Managing the Work-Life Balance’. Although very slightly touched in class, work-life balance is viewed as a strategic component of the package offered to the employees, as in the workplace of the future, many employers are realizing that the only constant competitive advantage they will have is their people - their intellectual capital. Organizational success depends on people. People have multiple responsibilities, diverse needs, and often, conflicting priorities.
It has been found that people who have well paid jobs are generally happier and more satisfied with their job and overall life. Jobs that involve health and safety risks are generally associated with lower levels of happiness. But other aspects such as work life balance, job variety, and level of autonomy strongly influence well being. Many studies have proven that individuals do not adapt over time to being unemployed, there can even be scarring effects. Even if individuals gain employment after being unemployed, they can be scared of losing their job once again.
Abstract The insight one can gain through the value of mutual support among colleagues and foster work-life balance was very influential on the importance of making time for both family and work. For example, as a graduate student, one must develop a balance in dealing with schoolwork assignment deadlines, dealing with family life demands, and managing your work/job duties. According to Evans (2003), work-life balance comes when a person decides to engage and satisfy both work and personal life equally. An individual may only obtain balance with proper time management and involvement (p. 439). The commitment to achieving work-life balance deals with the need for balance in life (Tajlili, 2014, p. 257).
Abdullah et al (2011) considered some factors such as promotion, employee loyalty and acknowledgment of work which have an effect on employee satisfaction, but he found wages as the main factors for job satisfaction. Additionally, calisir (2010) maintained that encouragement and salaries are the most important determinant of job satisfaction. Ahmed and Ali (2009) emphasized that due to fact that identification or reward has been changed a lot, therefore, work motivation and satisfaction will be change parallel, so that greater focus on incentives and acknowledgment, the greater positive impact on the job satisfaction level. In addition, Hunjra (2010) found positive and meaningful relationship between employee satisfaction and management behavior such as group work, leadership and independence
Behavior-based – behaviors expected or required in one role are incompatible with behaviors required or expected in the other role. Allen et al. (2000) also found a significant, negative correlation between work-family conflict and life satisfaction . Boles et al. (2001) examined that work-family conflict was not only significantly and negatively related to job satisfaction in general, but also to all of the facets of job satisfaction such as satisfaction with supervision and promotion.
The consequences were as follows; diminished job satisfaction, poorer performance and productivity, lower the organisational commitment, inferior career ambition and success, increase absenteeism and intention to leave, employee burnout, job stress, poorer physiological and psychological health and reduced performance in personal life and family. In contrast, work-life balance and employees perception toward well-being is important to organisational growth and effectiveness. The authors also mentioned three dimension of work-life balance. The dimensions of work-life balance are Work interference with personal life (WIPL), Personal life interference with work (PLIW) and Work/Personal life enhancement (WPLE) (Shobitha Poulose &Sudarsan N, 2014). Dolly (2015) cited from article written by Fisher, mention that work-life balance is a multidimensional construct and its various aspects such as work interfering with personal life (WIPL), work-personal life enhancement (WPLE), and personal life interference with work (PLIW) are closer in terms of work-family conflict.
Introduction In today’s society, it is common for employees to have many challenging responsibilities in their life other than work, for example, commitments involving parents or children, education or sports commitments or personal interests outside of work. People want to escape work for a greater sense of well-being and to reduce stress levels. A poor balance between an employee’s work commitments and their other responsibilities can lead to low productivity as well as high stress and absentees. Meanwhile, employees with better work-life balance often have a greater sense of responsibility, achievement, ownership and control of their working life. If an employer helps an employee to balance their work and home life, the organizations can be rewarded by increased loyalty and commitment.
