There were many violent ends within the play that all began with Romeo and Juliet’s forbidden love, and one was the passing of five characters. Mercutio was a relative to the prince and as such he was untouchable. On the other hand he also subtly chose sides. Being friends with the Montagues was the beginning of the road to his death. He was an extremely witty person within the play constantly making jokes, but he also had a vivid imagination coming up with eloquent stories for the trio to hear.
Placing the Blame The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet truly becomes a tragedy once Mercutio, Romeo’s close friend, is killed by the hand of Tybalt. Multiple claims could be made regarding who is responsible for Mercutio’s death, but he himself is ultimately to blame. Once Tybalt approaches him, Mercutio begins to instigate. The heat at the time of this scene was hardly bearable, making matters worse as Mercutio quickly becomes irritable. He made insulting comments and aggravating remarks, pushing Tybalt to the point of fighting.
After reading Romeos and juliet I claim that it is Romeo's fault for Romeo and Juliet's death. He caused Mercutio's death and he took drugs to kill himself which led to them juliet killing himself. I also think that it is partially Lord Capulet's fault for there death becuase he wants her to marry Paris. Some people would say that it is neither of there fault and that is was Mercutio and Tybalt's fault. The reason they would say that it was there fault is because they started play fighting.
Mercutio. The fun, joking teenager In Romeo and Juliet. Surely, he can’t be blamed for Romeo and Juliet’s death? He was dead for nearly half the play, after all. However, he still played a big part in the play.
In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the characters, Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, Romeo, Juliet and Lady Montague all die, and Mercutio is to blame. Act 1, Scene 4 of Romeo and Juliet, is about Mercutio convincing Romeo to go the party being held by the Capulet family. Romeo does not want to go, because he is a Montague and not welcome into the house of Capulet. After some convincing, Romeo agrees and goes to the party, where he is spotted by Tybalt. Tybalt hates the idea of a Montague in his family home, and searches for romeo in the square the next day.
Romeo is to blame for Mercutio’s death in Act III of Romeo and Juliet. First of all, Romeo did not fight back when Tybalt insulted him. Tybalt calls Romeo a villain and other various names, but Romeo responds by saying (paraphrase), “I love you more than you believe for we are family, even if you are oblivious to this fact. I love the name Capulet as much as I love my own name”(3.1.72-75). When Romeo says this, Tybalt becomes confused and enraged.
Mercutio being an easily influenced guy caused his death and the 2 more. On the day of his own death, Mercutio was confronted by Tybalt. Tybalt tried to get a fight out of Mercutio without being the one to start the fight. Tybalt plan prevailed and Mercutio succumbed to his anger which eventually caused his own death. This leads up to Tybalt’s death, Romeo’s banishment, Friar Lawrence’s plan, and the unfortunate death of Romeo and Juliet.
Why Mercutio Died For many, the death of Mercutio came as a shock while reading Romeo and Juliet. As royalty, Mercutio is one of the only characters that can roam freely between the houses without wreaking havoc and offending either rivaling family. Mercutio’s role in the play is described as comedic relief. He has a way of distracting the audience from the impending tragedies.
Tybalt always wanted to fight Romeo. Tybalt and Mercutio get into a fight because of some upsetting words Tybalt said. In the fight Tybalt kills Mercutio, which get Romeo upset. Then Romeo kills Tybalt, which gets him banished form Verona, Italy. So the long-standing family feuding and fate are the cause of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths.
In scene 1 of Act 3, when Tybalt challenges Romeo, Mercutio responds by trying to get Tybalt to fight him instead of fighting Romeo(3.1.70-79), proving that he is such a good friend that he is willing to put his life on the line. This scene is essential to the story because it results in Mercutio dying and Romeo getting banished. If this scene didn’t occur, then Romeo would not have been banished and would have gotten the message that Juliet was faking her death. Similarly, on page three of The Ethiopss Ear, it talks about how Mercutio and Romeo had such a strong friendship that they could have been lovers, and also about how much Mercutio cared about Romeo, causing him to fight Tybalt. This helps us understand just how strong of a friendship Romeo and Mercutio had in the play, given that they could have been lovers if not for Juliet.
To start things off, let us look at how Mercutio’s actions and advice led Romeo to be abhorred by almost everyone in Verona. At the Capulets’ party, Romeo infuriates Tybalt, after Tybalt discovers that a Montague (Romeo) is at the Capulet’s feast. Mercutio was there, and in fact, he led Romeo to be disliked by Tybalt. Mercutio told Romeo he should find love and pursue it even if it does not work out for him.
The story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare revolves around Romeo and his troubling love life. Romeo overcomes many obstacles and broken hearts on his journey to find the love of his life with his best friend Mercutio by his side. A young Juliet walks into Romeo’s life leaving him speechless and amazed, but their parent’s rivalry will end up being the reason why Romeo and Juliet kill themselves, so they won't have to live a life without each other. Although Romeo and Mercutio are best friends, they are both very different in the way they live their life. Although they both are very friendly and caring people, Mercutio and Romeo differ in their feelings about love and how serious they take life.
There are many deaths in the story of Romeo and Juliet. Mercutio’s and Tybalt’s had been one of those that were most influential to the story. The passing of Tybalt created chaos between the two families, especially the two lovers. With Romeo banished, Juliet came to the resort of faking her death so that Romeo could save her, but as we all know, that plan
Shakespeare introduces tragedy with the deaths of Mercutio and Tybalt, steering the play in a direction other than love. As in life, actions have consequences, and this scene especially allows Romeo to see this fact. The first real tragedy of the play is Mercutio's death. As he dies, he foreshadows what is awaiting both families when he says, “A plague o’ both your houses” Then Romeo acts impulsively and kills Tybalt.

It is so relatable till date because people fall in love now as Romeo and Juliet did, families fight, as the Montagues and Capulets did. We can relate to each character in some. Which is what makes this play so compelling and lets it live, five hundred years later. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic tale of two lovers, separated by an epic feud of their two houses (Romeo a Montague and Juliet a Capulet.)
