All the great nations are where they are in terms of progress and prosperity as a result of their fore fathers “dying a little“. Patriotism is not the same as heroism. It transcends heroism in that the patriot puts his nation above and beyond everything else whereas in most cases, the hero seeks to achieve a personal feat. It should be understood that it is not every hero is a patriot but all patriots are heroes. They see their presence in their country as an opportunity to contribute to her prosperity and development. They misconstrue patriotism to be just a servant of one’s country and this is where the problem lies because patriotism is more than serving one’s nation. What we forget to appreciate when we are trying to analyze the attributes of the servant is that genuine servant does not seek to take undue advantage of the master rather; they seek the wholeness and betterment of him. When a servant serves their master faith fully, they do not lose their reward. In a way, they are heroes in the eyes of their masters. In the same vein, patriots are those who serve their countries faithfully and thus are held in high esteem by them. Their deeds are painted in gold and posterity never forgets them because they are true heroes. A famous actor Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Being heroic does not always mean you’re special or well known. Since a hero shows determination, it drives them to help others and go beyond what’s expected of them. Heroes are people who go beyond expectations.
As an American, I believe that the people that have fought in the wars for our country are some of the strongest and some of the most well respected people in this world. My uncle was in the army and because of it, he is a stronger human being. He also is dependable and trustworthy person. He learned that from the places he was at and the things he saw. People that come back from serving might not be the same because of what they saw or what happened to them.
I am proud to have relatives who were in wars during their lives. Both of my grandfathers, my uncle, and my mom’s cousin were. I adore all of the nation’s heros also. We have been a country standing tall and proud for 240 years! When we stand tall and put our hand over our heart for the Star-Spangled Banner which is our national anthem and to the Pledge of Allegiance we promise to love our country and it is like saluting to our flag.

A patriot, by a simple definition, is an individual who vehemently supports their country. The word has a generally positive connotation, however, patriotism does not necessarily have to coincide with a positive national situation. There is also the question of how patriotism coincides with notions of national identity. Extreme, or misguided forms of patriotism can lead to terrible outcomes. In the case of the founding fathers, their patriotism did not extend to women, African Americans, or Native
Every past and modern culture over the course of history, has its hero’s. A hero is a person or figure that others look up to and use as forms of protection. Many cherish the hero’s, they make up who we are today. The Anglo-Saxon hero, Beowulf, and the postmodern hero/hero’s, the soldiers, both show the traits of bravery, selflessness, and loyalty. To have the trait of bravery you have to have lots of confidence in yourself and have courage.
I was proud of the men and women who represented America by joining the armed forces. I’ll never lose this pride. I will always be a patriot, a lover of the red, white, and blue, and an admirer of our veterans. Our national anthem calls America the land of the free and the home of the brave, but America can only be free if she is brave. Economics tell us that nothing is free.
In the United States, serving in the military is seen as a model of true patriotism, and rightfully so. Service members train for 10 weeks in their transition from civilian to a soldier. They train to be able to endure all the hardships that may come their way. Service members have to be in the best physical shape to serve and because of all that they do, they are thought of as brave and selfless people. Service members make extreme sacrifices to defend our country and act selflessly by doing so; it is fitting that they are seen as heroes by many Americans.
