CHAPTER I
1.1 Introduction
In an elementary, middle and high school, principal is the highest ranking administrator. It is the superintendent whom principals directly report or in some schools they report directly to the trustees or their designee. In our Indian Education system, especially in aided schools, principals or the highest ranking school level administrator are also called Head masters of the school. Head masters or the principals have many responsibilities in the school but they may also engage themselves in addition al activities for the school like fund raising. In many schools, there is only one person who plays the role or principal as well as superintendent. The principals, who are responsible for the overall operation of

The need arose, as the school grew from one room school houses into schools with multiple grades and classrooms, to manage these more complex organizations in and around the beginning of the twentieth century. The teachers who continued to teach while also dealing with their schools management needs, found the need for it initially. They were called initially as principal teachers.in most of the schools, with the growth of the school, the teachers and principals became the administrators. Because of the growing demands of their management, most of principals soon stopped teaching (yet they teach in aided schools as per the Secondary School Code norms). Work like school scheduling, financial operations, school policy regarding discipline, coordination of the instructional program and over all school matters were the responsibilities of the Principals. The management only had the role of curriculum and instruction supervision, but it was the role of principals to see the overall school management until 1980s. The role of the principal changed from school manager to instructional leader and then to school reform leader as the accountability movement gained momentum. Principals retained their management role with this shift in roles. Multiple roles are played by a Principal like – School manager, Instructional leader and a leader of school …show more content…
Brendon O’ Malley’s work in 2007, Education under Attack published by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) is considered as the first ever detailed study of its kind. The analysis of conflict in fragile states has gained significant attention within the policy makers in the recent past and till today the role of education on conflict resolution is highly debated upon. No clear casual direction of the two has been established and no formal model has been developed even though some studies have tried to estimate a linkage between educational outcomes and violence. It has become one of the researchable topics seeing the present mayhem world today, whether education creates conflict or conflict affects educational development
The second domain in the Florida Principals Leadership Standards is composed of three different standards. The first of these is Instructional Plan Implementation and is about how an effective leader must collaborate to develop and implement an effective instructional framework that aligns with the required standards and meets his/her students’ needs (“The Florida Principal,” n.d.). Due to the variety in options that are available to align instruction to a pupil, given that the instruction will be adjusted to his/her needs, I feel that the situational leadership approach will be able to be implemented in this situation to create better results as “different situations demand different kinds of leadership (Northouse, P., 2016). The different leadership styles that make up the Situational approach can be tied to this standard by connecting the necessary leadership style with the supportive and directive behaviors in the task that is performed. As an instructor, I will spend time in the S1 category of the Situational Leadership Model as I make use of a “common language of instruction”, spend time between the S1 and S2 categories by “communicate the relationships among academic standards” and by being engaged “in data analysis for instructional planning and improvement”.
The first step to problem solving is framing the problem. How did Principal Goings frame the problem involving Mr. Watson? According to ISLLC standard three, “A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by ensuring management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.” This including the focus on human resource management, development and operational procedures and structure within the school.

Politics also play a part in this dynamic on a large and small scale, from the board members who must campaign for their position to individuals engaging in self-promotion in hopes of improving their position. Legitimate formal power and direction comes from the top of the pyramid on down through the ranks. Perched at the top of the power pyramid are five elected county school board members and the county superintendent of schools. Below them are five assistant superintendents and at the next level down are a combination coordinators and program managers. Lastly, all other staff make up the base of this formation, having the least amount of influence and dependent on mid-level managers for resources, information and approval of decisions.
What about in a school system? What roles of management are involved in the system and what challenges do they face? In the school
There are many different roles and purposes of these roles within schools. When it comes to school governors it can be said that they have a number of duties within the school they are attached to. This ultimately is ensuring the school upholds a high standard of academic achievement. This can be done and filtered into many different duties which can include, setting various targets and improvements for the school, overseeing school finances, having a well balances and broad curriculum, the hiring of staff which includes reviewing their performance and pay etc. (Queens Inclosure Primary School, 2016).
For ‘New Wars’ theorists, modern conflicts have a series of important similarities, which at the same time are different from traditional conflict therefore; a categorization of identifiable variables could be constructed. More precisely, by describing the characteristics of these new forms of violence, it intends to create a common theory of why wars are developing the way they are doing now and how does this development takes place. Indeed in her thesis she punctuates how in the ‘New Wars’ actors, objectives, finances and tactics are not anymore the ones that use to be found in ‘Old Wars’. The dichotomy between traditional wars and contemporary wars is the core subject of this work. With this conceptualization, Kaldor has brought a new way of thinking about war and opened up more possibilities for the theorization and comprehension of wars.
senior management team Made up of head teacher and deputy head, they set the strategic direction of the school and manage this. Always aware of current state of school, lead any changes that need to happen and ensure school is doing the best it can for the children that attend. other statutory roles e.g. SENCO The SENCO will co-ordinate additional support for pupils and help/discuss with their parents, teachers and other professionals who are involved with them. The text states, “The superintendent did have enormous power of initiative in virtually all matters concerning the schools: the appointment of staff, the selection of textbooks, plans and contracts for buildings, the determination of the curriculum, and normal decisions about everyday running of the schools” (159). When examining the formal education of our current educational institutions, it is evident that the power structure lies with superintendents, school boards and principals who share expectations on how classrooms should be run as well as decision making for the betterment of the institution and students. Overall, formal education has evolved and will continue to evolve as educators search for their perception of the “one best system” for their students. Throughout the history of education, power structure and social class matters have influenced how educators implement regulations, interact with community members and fellow educators, but most importantly, the education of students so that they may be instilled with the skills and confidence to further themselves as
To help fix school systems we would need to start at the beginning I would place more emphasis on early childhood programs, especially for children in underserved communities. I would highlight the potential cognitive and non-cognitive skills such as motor skills and other educational aspects that would help the child grow and that can transfer to children 'academic life, social and family life, and later career life. Out-of-school-time staff would be given pedagogy-based professional development, opportunities for degree attainment, and residency-like programs to assist mentorship between teachers. This would be to make sure that children are not deprived due to there circumstances. Lastly, I would encourage cross-curriculum connections and
He contends that when an individual or group is denied its major requirement for identity, security, acknowledgment or equivalent investment inside of the general public, extended conflict is inescapable. To determine such conflict, it is essential that needs that are debilitated be distinguished and along these lines rebuilding of connections or the social framework happen in a way that needs of all people and groups are suited (Burton John, 1991,p82). For instance, this model can be helpful in the cases of African conflicts, for example, that of Darfur, Burundi, Dr Congo and Rwanda conflicts, where there are limitations on opportunity and support of its nationals in political and monetary
In the context of religion, all religions have their enshrined principles, or written holy scriptures, that followers must adhere to by unquestioning pure faith, and often the religion will lay claim to be the one and only spiritual truth that will lead to eternal salvation. This uncompromising stance that is a common principle of most religions can lead to inflexibility and intolerance in the face of other beliefs. Scripture and dogma are often vague and open to interpretation. Therefore, conflict can arise over whose interpretation is the correct one, a conflict that ultimately cannot be solved because there is no arbiter. Therefore for the purpose of this essay, the case studies regarding whether the cause of violent conflict is mainly different
WHAT IS IT? School-based management (SBM) is a strategy to improve education. By transferring significant decision-making authority from education offices to individual schools. SBM provides principals, teachers, students, and parents control over the education process by giving them responsibility for decisions about the planning, personnel, curriculum and action in school. Through the involvement of school community members in these key decisions, SBM can create more effective learning environments for students.
The violent conflict approach is defined through coercion, threats, and destructive assaults. Galtung’s, model suggests that each of these components influence one another, and while each
Malcolm X once said “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepared for it today.” In the western world education plays a vital role in shaping our future; it determines if we will survive or fail in the world we created for ourselves. Our world is constantly changing and it requires a society that is well versed in understanding the problems deriving from cultural differences and tolerance of one another’s beliefs and perceptions. With the power of education we are able to deal with the problems of economic, government, religion and culture differences.
