The Role and Use of Information and Communication Technology in Education Sector
1.0 Introduction Since late 20th century, involvement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has started to become significant in Education sector. Many empirical studies have proven that using ICT as a medium or tool to teach in the classroom or outside the classroom is able to enhance and improve the quality of education. The earliest countries of using ICT in education sector was the western countries. In Europe, appropriate use of ICT in the class is the key factor in improving the quality of education. Many type of ICT have been applied in education such as Emerging Learning Technology (ELT), e-learning, Integrated Learning Modules, pod cast in university and so on. Undeniably, ICT products like smartphones, laptop or tablet are widely using in all around the world nowadays and undoubtedly these products or instruments are also playing some important roles in education sector (Shahmir, Hamidi & Zohre, 2011). Other than the tools and ICT products, the most important products that is invented in late 20th century is the internet. With the help of those ICT products, teacher and lecturer will be able to prepare their teaching materials much easier and less troublesome. By using laptop or personal computer (PC), either teacher or student can access to the information and data which is provided on the internet.
