Courage doesn 't just help you it can also help other people around you too. Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, Mildred D. Taylor uses Cassie Logan as an example of courage, although she has faced many rough and harsh times she has used courage to overcome them. Cassie faces many challenges but some of the ones that stood out to me were, standing up to the teacher when Little Man did not want his book because of the condition that it was in, standing up for herself at the Mercantile when she was not waited on, and T.J when he was not being so nice to Cassie and the Loganś. Cassie was a very smart and intelligent person. She always wanted to know what was going on because she wanted to know if there was something that she could do to help. Cassie could always come up with a way to help …show more content…
Cassie always had a goal in mind to help her family and make them proud of her. Cassie showed that she was courageous because, she stood up for Little Man when he did not want his book because it was tore up, standing up to Mr. Barnett at the Mercantile, and helping T.J. even though he did not know that he needed it. Cassie Logan was a very courageous because she knew the segregation between the blacks and the whites. She made some very powerful changes in her life. When she decided that ¨whites were more important¨ than blacks. When that occurred to her, she was at the Mercantile and Lillian Jean bumped into her, then Lillian Jean blamed her as a result of that, Lillian Jeanś Dad pushed Cassie down on the ground and Big Ma had to stop her from retaliating. Cassie realized that Big Ma was trying to help her not get hurt by Lillian Jeanś Dad. ¨When I pinned Lillian Jean securely beneath me,... I demanded an apology for all the names she had called me, and for the incident in Strawberry.¨ (Taylor, 181) This is why I think that Cassie Logan was the most courageous person in the book, Roll of Thunder Hear my
When scout stands up to the mob(Lee 205) this shows courage because she is standing up to a mad drunken mob that could kill her. Also, this shows courage because if she didn’t stand up to her the mob would’ve been 10 times worse and it takes courage to stand up to any adult when she was still a kid. A quote for this is “Do you remember me Mr. Cunningham?”(Lee 205) this shows courage because it shows that scout is using a kind of guilt thing to make Mr. Cunningham stop the mob and tell everyone to go home that takes a lot of courage to stand up to a mob like that and to talk to the leader of it when he is 2 or more feet tall. The next example for courage is when Mrs Dubose(Lee 147) tries to get off of her morphine addiction. This shows courage because it is very hard to get off of an addiction especially a drug addiction.
Cool people use it to become a teacher and others used courage to become astronauts! Without courage nothing would get done. Everyone would be very scared to do something as simple as talking to one of our friends without courage! In the book Speak Melinda needs to stand up for herself when IT comes to beat her up for revenge. She needs a ton of courage to stand up for herself after everything she went through.
Courage could be fearlessly throwing oneself towards danger, however courage could be when someone overcomes their fears and becomes a better person in the process. Courage could also be when someone faces their fears thinking of the worst outcomes, but still knows that they should hold their ground. Frederick Douglass In the “The Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass” and Henry in the Red Badge of Courage both showed courage. They both overcame their fears and did what was best for themselves and others.
People that show courage in hard times know what could happen to them yet they act upon it to win a battle. In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, many characters show true courage when they are under pressure or should not as they know something bad will happen to them. Mrs. Dubose, Atticus Finch, and Jem Finch all show courage and perseverance even though they know that something bad will happen to
When Cassie becomes a pre-teen she is put into a situation where she has to trust her mother with her safety. She says “It was an act of faith, and all I had to do was trust my mother would catch me. But my legs felt like they belonged to someone else the way I couldn’t stop them from shaking.” (Kletter 77)
Courage is something that everyone will encounter at some point in their life, when someone is being treated unfairly. Whether it is you being discriminated against, or someone around you, you'll have the challenge of facing courage. In Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor, Cassie has to show courage when she is faced with discrimination because of her race being African-American. This book is based in the 1930s in Mississippi, when most whites treated blacks very badly. Cassie showed courage throughout the book when she stood up for Little Man on his first day of school, when she stood up to Mr. Barnett at the Mercantile, and whenever she fought Lillian Jean and made her apologize for being so mean.
Cassie bumped into Lillian Jean while she was walking, and Lillian Jean makes Cassie apologize to her once again even though Cassie already said sorry. Lillian Jean uses her white supremacy to force Cassie to apologize, but Cassie doesn't. Finally, when Big Ma comes Big Ma makes Cassie apologize so that she wouldn't be in trouble, Cassie controls her feeling of arguing and says “I’m sorry…M-Miz…Lillian Jean.” When the words had been spoken, I turned and fled crying into the back of the wagon.
Stacey’s courage Courage, people have many different meaning of courage, my meaning is standing up to do something that you think is right and what you think you need to do. In the book “Roll of Thunder,Hear my Cry”, Stacey, the brother of the main character, takes charge when Papa isn’t there, he strives to be the man of the house. He tries to take care of everything. Stacey shows courage when he gets revenge on the Jefferson Davis school bus, tells mama about the Wallace Store ,and protected Big Ma from Cassie telling about Strawberry,MS. Everyday the bus splashes the Logans on purpose, they have to go to school wet and home wet.
“Courage doesn 't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying ‘I’ll try again tomorrow’” - Mary Anne Radmacher. Through this quote one can see the advantages of real courage. One can really understand the true meaning of courage by reading the books To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. The book by Harper Lee is written by a 9 year old’s perspective named Scout.
According to Atticus, this is the ability to face adversity and go through with something honourable, even though you realize that it is impossible to win. There are quite a few characters in the book, which show some kind of courage, but there is one in particular, Atticus. Harper Lee made Atticus the hero of moral and a symbol of courage in her novel. He is the figurehead for all three kinds of courage I mentioned. For one he confronts a rabid dog, which displays physical courage.
In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout, Calpurnia, and Atticus stand out when courage comes to mind. These characters show courage in many unique ways with different situations. In the early 1930s, in the deep south, racial discrimination was a huge conflict, for example, the Jim Crows Laws were in play, and it legalized segregation between blacks and whites. Courage isn’t always shown in situations, but simply throughout growing up.
Tom uses all his might to prove his innocence and stay with his family. And Jem is always standing up for and taking care of scout. Almost every single character in this book shows at least a little bit of courage. As I stated before Courage appears so much in this book throughout so many characters.
Courage is the ability to do something that frightens one. An ordeal or circumstance that can bring out this instantaneous bravery and audacity inside of someone. Courage can be defined by something everyone wishes to display. Not only is it an attribute of good character, but it's what makes us worthy of respect. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the main characters would not have been able to make it without having and acting upon courage.

In the book Roll of Thunder, Cassie goes through a lot crazy events in Alabama. The author of this book Mildred D. Taylor hoped that this book would someday teach kids the movement of Civil rights. One of the most influential characters in this story is Cassie. Cassie is a young girl who lives in rural Alabama with her brothers and parents.
