Each and every day, people make sacrifices for their loved ones. Maybe they choose to get up earlier in order to do chores or miss an important meeting so that they would have time for each other. There is no greater example of sacrifices for loved ones than in Romeo and Juliet however, where Shakespeare explores two star-crossed lovers, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, who come from two families that have a deep hatred towards each other. The pair meet each other, secretly wed, and then in order to stay together, commit suicide out of despair and distress. Through Romeo and Juliet’s acts of defiance and sacrifice, Shakespeare proves that while hate has the power to destroy and kill, love is even more powerful as it has the power to transform.
Overall, Romeo and Juliet got married urgently because they had feelings of true love towards each other. In Act 2, scene 4, Romeo says, “Tell her to devise a plan to get out of her house and come to confession at the abbey this afternoon.” This proves that Romeo is anxious about seeing Juliet since he loves her so much, since they have feelings of true love towards each other.In Act 2, scene 2, Juliet says, “ …I 'll say good night until tonight becomes tomorrow…”This proves that Juliet knows that she will see him tomorrow at that same time which shows that she has feelings of true love. The story of Romeo and Juliet is the story of two star crossed lovers. Romeo and Juliet’s love is hidden because they are forbidden to date as they are from the two opposing houses in Verona; Capulet’s and Montague’s. Names are important in this tragedy as the reason there was so much tragedy is based on the two teenagers having to hide their love from everyone and the weight that responsibility bared on them. In this play names divide characters and define people as well as they divide the city in two based on your last name. In act 1, the hatred for the opposing families is quite clear, especially with Tybalt, who throughout the play, is the most vocal about his hatred and the clear division between the two families.
