In Romeo and Juliet the two main emotions that are shown to both characters are honor and love.Love is when you show or give affection to the significant other and the meaning of honor is to show respect using actions not words. The way Romeo and Juliet express love and honor is by taking a risk for each other knowing both of the family holds a grudge for each other they still find ways to love each other while respecting their wishes.“Three words, dear Romeo, and good night indeed. If that thy bent of love be honorable,Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow,By one that I’ll procure to come to thee,Where and what time thou wilt perform the rite; And all my fortunes at thy foot I’ll lay”(act 2,line 145,page 407) this quote is said by Juliet …show more content…
When Romeo and Juliet experience love at first sight Romeo sacrifices a kiss in the first act 1 The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. “If I profane with my unworthiest hand This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this: My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.”(page 394,line 95) The meaning of this quote is to show that Kissing Juliet would be a sin until Juliet convinces him it's not a sin but a prayer and they both sacrifice a kiss to each other. They Both know their families are enemies they still make the decision to sacrifice a kiss to start something new acting on something they know they would get in trouble for but just thought of love at first sight. Honor and love can overlap in the story more than once. An example would be when Romeo stumbles upon tybalt wanting to fight Romeo but refuses because he’s family and wants to keep a clean relationship with Tybalt showing that he loves Juliet but has to sacrifice honor by killing
Fate is one of the many themes in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. In the play Friar Laurence says, “Wisely and slow. / They stumble that run fast.” (2.3.93-94). This quote establishes the theme of fate because it shows that Romeo and Juliet are going very fast with their relationship and are fated to stumble.
Romeo and Juliet trust Friar Laurence and trust his guidance. Instead of secretly marrying them, he should have made them face their families and profess their love. “But come, young waverer, come, go with me. In one respect I'll thy assistant be, For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households' rancor to pure love (2.3.96-99).” Friar Laurence believes, based on the quote, that the bond between Romeo and Juliet will cure the feud between the two households.
Countless humans have a duty to honor their families and loved ones around them. However, obligations to others become problematic when strong emotions are involved. Through a raw, endearing romance, William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet illustrates the concept of duty through the perspectives of love and hatred. The classic tale or, better, the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, observes star-crossed love between two characters separated by an age-old feud. In the play, the protagonists and their loved ones face the enduring moral decision between family and themselves, often ending up in life-and-death situations.
Unlike the rest of his family, who are citizens of the Montague household and are involved in a bloody conflict with the House of Montague, William Shakespeare's Romeo is portrayed as a sympathetic lover and lovable guy who prefers not to engage in conflict or instigate bloodshed. Romeo's desire to be a lover is evident when he is in love with Rosaline or when he commits suicide for Juliet. Romeo defies the expectations of men at the time because, in act 1 scene 1, he sits in his room sobbing over his unfulfilled love for Rosaline, which is not something men would typically do at the time. Instead of acting like the typical man, who'd been viewed as being a ruler, having extreme power, and showcasing aggression or toughness. He deviated from
Although Juliet is a hardheaded and clingy character she is also determined and loyal. During the play Juliet is forced, by her father, to marry another man named Paris. Juliet is set on being with Romeo and said to her father “ I pray, tell my lord and father, madam/ I will not marry yet (lll.iiiii.120-121). By refusing another man it showed how loyal she was to Romeo. Along with her loyalty, Juliet shows her determination to be with Romeo in the last act of the play.
In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare masterfully employs the key elements of tragedy, such as language, form and features, to explore the themes of extreme obsession and fate versus love. Depicted throughout the play, Shakespeare conveys Romeo’s extreme obsession, which ultimately leads to his downfall. Another theme discussed also includes fate versus love, incorporating the idea of how Romeo and Juliet were predestined to die. In Romeo and Juliet, one of the major themes portrayed is extreme obsession.
Fake Love There is a difference between love and infatuation. In the Play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo claims Juliet is the woman he is helplessly in love with and is destined to be with. Although he may think that he loves her, his desire is captivated by her looks. Throughout the play, it becomes more obvious through Romeo's words, history, and knowledge that he does not know the loyalty of love. “Young men’s love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes” (Act 2, Scene 3, Lines 67-68)
In Act 1 Scene 5, Shakespeare reveals Romeo and Juliet's relationship dangers as their families are enemies of one another which can cause massive casualties in their relationship. As Juliet says in the scene when she's talking to Romeo, she says if her guards find him they will kill him surely because of how he's trespassing along with being included in the "enemies" family. Though Romeo doesn't care, he explains to Juliet how they can make their love work by being together secretly. Romeo and Juliet both revealed facts on how their relationship can cause awful events but yet still ignore it so they can be together due to being "in love" Therefore you can see without any input from anyone else besides themselves, Romeo and Juliet are pushing themselves too far ahead without thinking twice and or carefully. This can then lead to horrible consequences and can cause a feud between the two’s families and

From the first time, the audience is introduced to Tybalt he is characterized as an instigator and a generally perturbed person, he has a clear hatred for the Montagues and appears to be his life’s purpose to embroil the Montagues and more specifically Romeo’s life. No doubt this contributes to the complications that the pair of lovers face through their short-lived relationship and lives. During the capulet’s party in act one, Tybalt declares “Patience perforce with willful choler meeting Makes my flesh tremble in their different greeting. I will withdraw, but this intrusion shall, Now seeming sweet, convert to bitt’rest gall.” (Shakespeare.
Romeo and Juliet Final Essay Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.” This statement is proven by Romeo and Juliet. The story of Romeo and Juliet is so tragic that you have to wonder who is responsible for everything. The evidence from the book of the feud, not making Romeo leave, and the forced marriage all point to Capulet being responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Capulet, Juliet’s father, is very caught up in the feud between his family and the Montagues that he would do anything to defeat them.
Countless humans are dutied to honor their families and loved ones around them. However, obligations to others become problematic when strong emotions involve themselves. Families hate toward one another can lead to serious consequences like death. Indeed this paradox is explored in William Shakespeare’s famous play, “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet,” as he introduces Juliet, a young beautiful teenage girl from the Capulet family who falls in love with Romeo, a handsome and attractive young boy from the Montague family. In the beginning of the play, both the Capulet and Montague family hate each other. In the following play Romeo gets to meet Juliet at a masquerade party held at Juliet’s home. This is where Romeo along with Juliet fall in love with one another and later on decide it’s
If love be rough with you, be rough with love; Prick love from pricking and you beat love down. (1,V,25) . In Romeo and Juliet Willam Shakespeare proves the theme of love to show how someone falls in love quickly. He demonstrates love at first sight, falling in love, and marriage in three ways.
