Mind over Heart Passion is the fire within us that fuels our souls, propelling us toward our dreams and making every moment a sense of purpose and joy. Passion was the primary emotion that led Romeo and Juliet to end their lives. The decisions that led to their death were either guided by their heart or their mind. The heart mostly reacts first, mostly with emotions, but then the mind reacts with more logic and common sense. Shakespeare demonstrates several occasions where the characters were guided by their heart or mind, which in most scenarios when followed by their heart didn't lead to good events in the future. Romeo was informed by the Capulet messenger, that her former ex “Rosaline’ was going to the party Romeo instantly wanted to go. According to Romeo there is nothing more beautiful than Rosaline so he goes to the party, as he says “I'll go along, no such sight to be shown, But to rejoice in splendor of mine own.” (Shakespeare I.II-107). In this passage, Romeo is saying I'm going to the party, not to look at any other women, but to rejoice in my love beautify (Rosaline), saying that he is only going to talk to Rolsaline cause it is the love of her life. Romeo before had a dream that if he went to a party in the future it would lead to bad events in the future. When Romeo gets informed that Juliet had supposedly “died” Romeo's first reaction was to go and beat fate and kill himself with Juliet in the monument to die with her. The Friar had the plan to trick everyone into thinking that Juliet had died when in reality the Friar gave Juliet a potion to make her look like she was dead, then supposedly Romeo had to get a letter written by the friar about his plan, but he never received it, instead, he received the news that Juliet had died. When Romeo arrives at the monument to kill himself he states “With worms that are thy chambermaids. O, here will I set up my ever-lasting rest and shake the yoke of inauspicious stars” (Shakespeare V.III.110). In this quote, Romeo says, I’ll rest here forever and escape the control of the bad fortune that has plagued my body and kills himself next to Juliet. This proves the point that its better to follow the head instead of the heart because as soon as Romeo was informed that his wife had died, his first reaction was to go and kill himself with her, if he would've used thought rationally he could have waited a couple of hours to take a deep breath, really think about ending his life at that moment.
