Today’s society is dependant on communication . People depend on communication for good and bad reasons. In order to get news, warnings, or even surprises, we need communication. Something that goes against that is miscommunication, which is greatly represented in Romeo and Juliet. Another thing communication depends on is understanding and paying attention to others as well as surroundings. Romeo and Juliet displays how important miscommunication, lack of empathy, and lack of attentiveness affect daily lives. Miscommunication plays a great role in life. Miscommunication is represented in Romeo and Juliet in the way the movie and play ends. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, he represents how important understanding is. He represents how important it is by showing possible consequences such as death of your self or the death of others. In the play Mercutio dies because Tybalt , him, and Romeo can’t come to an understanding or an agreement on what should happen between Romeo and Juliet. Another way Shakespeare shows how important communicating is by the way Romeo dies. If Balthasar would have taken the time to listen to or understand the priest at the funeral he wouldn’t have told Romeo that Juliet was dead. Therefore Romeo wouldn’t have died and neither would have Juliet if there was a better understanding. Paying attention affects life in many ways. If you don’t pay attention, the outcomes of conversations, work, grades, or even lives could differ greatly. Romeo’s life was ended instantly because of not paying attention. He was so upset that he was blind to the fact that he was upset for no reason. He had thought the love of his life was dead and he was holding her in his arms, but little does he know she was alive and well right in front of him.
