For every action there is always a consequence. Romeo and Juliet is an affliction written by William Shakespeare and is about two unfortunate lovers who both yearn for each other, but are forbidden to and end a chaotic family feud due to their deaths. In Shakespeare’s play, puns and Romeo and Juliet’s actions emphasize how love overpowers obedience to their family, friends, and town.
In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare likes to use puns to show Juliet’s defiance towards her family. When Lady Capulet and Juliet talk in her room, Juliet feels that “yet no man like” him could “doth grieve [her] heart” (III.v.163). When Tybalt kills Mercutio it startles Romeo by wanting to get revenge, not thinking twice about the trouble he can get into. When Romeo witnesses his dear friend Mercutio’s death, he doesn’t hesitate to fight Tybalt and with this fight “this shall determine,” who will die no matter what troubles he has to go through (III.I. 7).
