Rowan Blanchard is a 14-year-old actress who plays Riley Mathews on Girl Meets World.
Last week, Blanchard came out “queer”. Blanchard tweeted “yes open to liking any gender in future is why I identify as queer.” – See more at:
Blachard is one the many celebrities who no longer identifies as straight.
Normally I hate celebrity gossip, and I really don’t care what another person identifies themselves as. If somebody wants to identify themselves as a hetroflexible male one minute, and a homoflexible women the next women, fine with me. I don’t judge people based on their sexuality. But Rowan Blanchard is the youngest celebrity that I can remember to come out. Blanchard’s coming out has caused controversy, mainly among parents.

And why shouldn’t we encourage and celebrate kids coming out as LGBTQ? It’s bad enough that kids (and adults) have to stay in the closet out of fear getting beat up. The only thing people within the LGBTQ community want is to not to be fired from their jobs, not get attacked just for expressing who they are. People within the LGBTQ community also want to have the same rights as everybody else.
What If Girl Meets World Had a Gay Character?
If Disney had decided to add a gay character on Girl Meets World, there’s no telling how they would introduce that character. But if I was a writer of that show, here’s what I would do.
Cory introduces a new girl to class. Let’s call her Katie. Katie is smart and she’s into sports. Katie subtly flirts with Riley. Katie and Riley starts to hang out and they get along great. Lucas, Maya, and Farkle start to notice that Katie likes Riley. But Riley is too oblivious. This epispode makes a meta-reference. “Is she old enough to know?” Maya tells Riley that Katie likes her. Riley is like “Oh…okay.”
Later on the episode, Riley confronts Katie. After about a minute of awkwardness. Katie admits that she likes Riley, but Riley tells Katie that she likes somebody else. Katie figures out that Riley likes
Although, she still refuses to tell anyone what happened, her ex-best friend Rachel begins to date Andy Evans. Melinda tells her what happened in a series of notes during study hall, but Rachel doesn’t believe her and says she’s just jealous. Yet, Rachel does listen to her warning and breaks up and mortify Andy at
What is afraid of change is society, which is bitter and conservative. Strong parental figures give children exploring their gender identity much needed hope and support. They also assist with the fight against society’s expectations by giving children the choice to be whoever or whatever they please. Many celebrities are coming out now as LGBTQIA+ because they now have support. This assistance has provided said celebrities with confidence and happiness in their treacherous journey of discovery.
Her name was heather and she moved from Ohio. Heather was very outgoing person. She tried for the first part of the school year to get Melinda involved in clubs or anything for that matter. Heather is obsessed with trying to become popular. When Heather joined the Marthas she slowly distant herself from Melinda.
They were not lesbians including Brandon who strongly identifies as a male: “this isn’t a lesbian relationship Gina! I don’t know what you’re
This piece of information is quite significant when it comes to the characterisation of Tina, whose portrayal is in some ways more akin to that what is expected of a teenage boy than a teenage girl. Tina wears a blue t-shirt, a black skirt and a pair of thickly framed glasses; none of this is particularly gendered, in likeness to the other Belchers’ outfits. However, her interests follow the audiences’ conception of a girl in her teens: horses, boys, boys and horses. Tina’s fascination with boys is given a lot of room in the show, as is her appreciation of butts. In the episode “Boyz 4 Now” Tina goes to a boy band’s concert and unlike Louise, she wholly enjoys her time there.
Please! Please Phil!” this shows Leah desperation and neediness for Phil’s approval and really reinforces Phil’s facade and how he really doesn't care for her as much as she does
Finny who is one of those attractive guys who everyone likes and is attracted to because of his good nature other than his rule breaking. Finny happens to be good at almost everything including getting out of trouble and sports. Gene can 't help but envy him.
In this essay I will touch on what intrigues me about Alison Bechdel’s creative and powerful art in Fun Home. Specifically this essay will look at a couple of pages that include her most interesting panels in the whole book. I compare the panels to others and discuss the feelings I have toward her choice of drawings and dialogue. By looking closely at and analyzing her artwork, I will show how Bechdel arouses curiosity with only two pages. First I will discuss a few panels on pages 220 and 221 that include Alison talking to her father after she has returned from college.
In this day and age, the LGTBQ+ community is expanding rapidly. Therefore, the community has included the plus sign at the end to represent those who are questioning, pan-gendered, intersexed, transsexual, or two-spirited and the many new ways people are self-identifying. Each generation is becoming more exposed to more information and are capable to choose from openly out members of the LGBTQ+ community as role models. For younger generations, it may become easier to recognize and acknowledge one’s sexual orientation or gender identity than those apart of Generation X and the Baby Boomers. However, even in this more open-minded society, homophobia is still living, breathing, and thriving.
'M not saying he 's absolutely a hundred prosent not straight - all 'm saying is that it 's a possibility that we, even after five years, cannot thoroughly deny. I think anyone labeling him straight is just as wrong as anyone labeling him gay, bi, pan or other. Something to keep in mind is the fact that in the business he 's in, being openly gay isn 't neccessarily even possible; it 's been quite legitly proven that their deal with Modest! and Syco has been less than ideal. Keep in mind these four men are all in a boyband, majority of which 's fans are young girls in their early or mid-teens (there are older fans too, obviously, especially in the Larrie part of the fandom) and being gay is unfortunately seen as a huge problem by some in the
Degrassi also shows how society rejects those who do not fit into the very specific gender standards that are enforced. This is seen in the effects of Yael coming out, as their peers question their identity and do not accept them at
Young Adult literature is essentially about identity-formation so this gendered and misogynistic language could form views about the world that a young adult would not necessarily form without these stereotypes. If these are already views that a young adult does have they may encourage them further. Character formation is important for the author to accomplish in order to make the character relatable, Alexie may have gone a little far though in an Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the character in fact became not relatable to the intended audience, yes my interviewee noticed it, but he didn’t understand it. Furthermore, these views and perceptions although true to the author may be somewhat outdated, which is why some young adults may not relate to the character. If in fact the audience does relate to this character or believe these views are the norm they may end up incorporating them into their own developing gender
Throughout the book Melinda is pushed away from her group of friends from the previous year. When a new girl, Heather comes to school Melinda thinks it is a perfect chance for a new friend. During a long weekend, Heather invites Melinda over to her house. Melinda “wanted to sleep in but Heather really, really, really wanted [her] to come over.” (pg. 32)
Having a different sexuality than the one expected of you, doesn’t change who you are as a person. Yes it might change how people see, or treat you, but it should never cause you to hate you uniqueness. You are who you are and nothing should ever come between you happiness even if others can’t accept it for what it is. In “Drowning in Fire” by Craig Womack, the author talks about homosexuality with the help of his central main characters that happens to be Native American.
Regular kids get bullied because they might be over weight or they are different then everyone else, these kids receive help as long as they ask for it. Some gay students might not get help because their counselor is against gays and imagine how their lives are going to be with a president who doesn't really accept being different. The counter side of my argument is that the LGBTQ community shouldn't have their own rights. They might say that it would take to much money and time to invest in their happiness.
