Morehouse School of Medicine is an appealing option for pursuing my medical education. When reading Morehouse’s mission statement, improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities grasped my attention. My clinical experiences revolve around communities that are underserved, and sharing the same mission as Morehouse is key to becoming the physician I aspire to be. One of the things that stood out to me about Morehouse is the student run Good Samaritan Health Center. I am very interested about being involved with God Samaritan, because it is akin to the Siloam Family Health Center that I volunteer at, and it is an embodiment of Morehouse’s mission. Impressively, this speaks volumes about Morehouse’s student body and their love for service, especially the special attention that is dedicated to the local community. This
In the Barbara Ehrenreich’s article “Serving in Florida,” she shows her experience while working at several restaurants as a waitress. During this time, Ehrenreich was a witness of the unfair conditions she and her colleagues had to face. From not having a place to sit and rest, to the stressful conditions imposed by her supervisor, she relates how it felt to work in this kind of environment. In general, working conditions at restaurants are unacceptable because they demand many continuous hours of work without rest, the hygiene conditions are questionable, and the compensation is overall low.
REI, better known as Recreational Equipment is a company that sells sporting goods, outdoor gear and apparel. The company was founded in 1938 by Mary Lloyd Anderson, and has been a co-op since the beginning. Being a co-op has allowed REI to focus on the long-term interests of not just themselves, but their members and customers as well. (rei.com overview, 2018) The company operates 154 stores in 36 states in America, but also receives income from purchases made via magazine and online. In the 1970's Rei focused mainly on equipment for backpackers, mountaineering expeditions and serious climbers. In “Learning to Serve: The Language and Literacy of Food Service Workers”, Tony Mirabelli presents the genre of communication used by waiters and waitresses as one which requires more skill than is usually assumed. Through the use of internet sources such as “hate mail” directed at websites, Mirabelli shows us that people who think the job of a food service worker is easy are quite common. He shows us the assumptions people tend to make through many examples such as economists who suggest that food service workers lack education needed to be considered “knowledge workers” and do mindless, routine tasks that anyone can do. Through examples of food service workers, including himself, Mirabelli contends that waiters, though in some cases uneducated,

First, most loyal customers are people seeking convenience. The reason why fast food restaurants are convenient because longer hours of being open, the prices are good , etc. As Visser said in her essay, “Convenient, innocent simplicity is what the technology, the ruthless politics, and the elaborate organization serve to the customer” (131). A example of a fast food place with convenience is Steak ’n Shake. Steak ’n Shake is open twenty four

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is not an association that I was familiar with prior to this post. AHRQ’s mission statement is to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of healthcare in America (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2015). Like many other associations, such as Healthy People and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation the goal is the same, which is to better healthcare in America. While every association offers something different, the AHRQ offers a great tool for healthcare providers such as nurse practitioners. Some of the tools offered include continuing education events and up-to-date clinical guidelines and recommendations. Due to the fact that guidelines in healthcare change

Besides the cold dishes, such as sushi and salad, I also had to deliver hot soup and heavy bowls of food on a tiny tray. In order to hold the tray steadily, I had to be extra careful to prevent the food from falling onto the floor. Since I cannot walk very fast in that way, I received harsh scolding from the manager for my low efficiency. The fortunate thing was that the other waiters and waitresses were very friendly. They taught me they way to work more efficiently. I learnt how to deal with some troublesome customers as
