Ruth Rankin received some devastating at her 20-week ultrasound. She was told that her daughter would probably not survive after birth. Ruth 's daughter had a rare brain disorder. The doctors suggested that Ruth terminate her pregnancy, but she refused. Even though Ruth 's daughter was not supposed to survive, she is now four years-old. The baby girl 's name is Lydia. She was born with Alobar Holoprosencephaly. This is a condition that occurs when the two front lobes of the brain do not separate. Lydia is not able to walk or talk as the result of her condition. She also has an abnormally large head because of her condition. Her head weighs 11 pounds. Ruth Rankin is enjoying every moment that she has with her daughter.
