Over 35.4 percent of the United States is registered for welfare. An average family of four, that receives money from the government, can expect as least $500 in food stamps, and at least another $1,500 for whatever else, and top it all off, the government pays all bills and also for any medical visits for the family. So
Recommendations: Since, Welfare-to-Work was designed on a state level, each state have their way of allocating the funds and it can be different from state to state. Therefore, we identified some issues in Wisconsin, Maryland, and general. Problem 1: Not having any work requirements for Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) recipients to receive benefits. Politicians believe the federal program would set up recipients for long-term use with no incentive of getting them off the program
The United States Government Should Stop Giving Food Stamp to Families with Kids Food stamp law were passed by the president franklin Roosevelt’s in the depression era to support families with low resources. According to the article, “food stamps have contributed to an overly dependent underclass”, that about 41.8 million Americans are on food stamps, and 43 million will be soon getting food stamps every month. U.S have to kind of people, one who likes to work and spend the own money, the other one are Who likes to live by the government, who support them. The hard working is supporting the lazy people in America just because they have nobody help. The government should stop giving food stamp to single mother or father, who have kids.
However, as people always do, some manage to find their way around this problem and sell their debit cards for 50 cents on the dollar for cash (Roskin et al, 273). So how much of our taxes do these food stamp “traffickers” (USDA) rob us of? In 2012, approximately $80 billion was poured into the SNAP (Burke) and according to the USDA, a little over one percent of food stamp funds is misused. This sounds insignificant but that comes out to 800 million of taxpayer dollars. Hardly a trifle amount.
How do you think the average American feels when he pays taxes to the government, just to know that it is going to people who use the money to buy drugs? According to Missouri, Oklahoma, Utah, Mississippi, Kansas, Tennessee, and Arizona only 10% of people receiving welfare are getting caught using drugs, the reason we only catch a small amount is the state government tells the recipients when they are drug testing them. In the technology we have today we can tell if a person is on drugs by three ways one way is urine, another way is blood and the last way is hair. These ways to drug test recipients are all efficient and effective. The most effective way is if you use hair to see if someone is using drugs you can usually tell for about 9 days it also depends on what drug they are using.
I am not saying we should get rid of food stamps. We should require able-bodied people without any dependents to work for Food Stamps. When this happened in Maine and Kansas the number of spending and people jurassicly decreased. Food Stamps is just another system that people can use to get something for free by scamming the system. This reform in food stamps would 1: Lower the spending on Food Stamps.
First, class segregation is a big deal in determining who agrees with the food stamp rules and who doesn’t. Of course, the rich and privileged are going to be upset about food stamp users buying certain things. A commonly used argument is : “Why don’t they get off their butts and work for it. I have had to work for what I have, so should they. My taxes should not be going towards the lazy buying extra, not needed things.”
Millions of single mothers live near or below the poverty line in the United States. They must struggle to simply pay the bills and put food on the table. Even with government subsidies, food stamps, and child support Katrina is fighting to survive with her children. The unfortunate part of the whole situation is that Katrina did nothing wrong she worked hard and simply tried to raise a family but life took a couple of turns. Katrina married young and started having children equally young as well.
Welfare dependence creates behavioral poverty. Perhaps President Franklin D. Roosevelt said it best: “Continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fibre. To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit.” To become comfortable relying on the work of others instead of your own work will change your character, and the character of the nation. Americans want to give everyone a helping hand, but hand-holding year after year, generation after generation, patronizes, corrodes, entraps.
There have been SNAP beneficiaries accused of cheating the system by receiving a greater benefit or exchanging SNAP benefits for cash. The highest payment accuracy that SNAP reached was at 96.19% in 2012 according to the USDA analysis. As we all know it is illegal to trade SNAP benefits for cash, but it still happens and attracts attention to many. Therefore, fraud and abuse in SNAP benefits will always be a political factor that has made Congress improve The Agriculture Act of 2014 SNAP program by reducing fraud which actually has happened because in 2014 fraud rates has been at its lowest. On the other hand, a major economical factor that has influenced the development of The Agriculture Act of 2014 SNAP program would be the implementation of slashing SNAP benefits which will have an affect many vulnerable citizens in the United States.
State Assistance Drug Testing In 2012, $86.5 billion was given to SNAP, including a $3 billion contingency fund set aside for any unforeseen future expenses (Quick Facts 4). Not many people know just how vast the program actually is. As of January 2016, 45.4 million people were participating in SNAP (“SNAP: Frequently Asked Questions” para 2). All states offer food assistance programs like SNAP, but only 13 states require the recipients to undergo drug testing to qualify (Quick Facts 4).
The total annual cost of food stamp program $69,800,000,000. Now, these social welfare programs are not a total complete failure they indeed do play a significant role in todays economy. If you were to eliminate these programs a countries economy would suffer because what taxpayers don't take into consideration is that if you have these high unemployment rate and homeless people and not providing them with some sort of assistance, there is going to have less consumer, and if there is less consumer, companies wont be making enough money to provide jobs, and if there is no workers companies wont be producing. So eventually the unemployment rate will increase even higher and economy will drop immensely. The social welfare programs help stabilize the government and prevent economical problems like the “great depression.”
The problem Quindlen is writing about is how some kids don 't get food during their summer break from school. Not everyone is able to use food stamps. As well as “The average length of a food stamp application is twelve often impenetrable pages. ”(page 224) Most don’t actually know that they are eligible to even apply for stamps and
As the economic troubles increased after 2007, the use of food stamps also grew as well for several years. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that an average of 44 million people were on food stamps in 2011; that's up from 17 million in 2000. Economic troubles does not only make it hard for people financially but emotionally as well. According to a report in The Chronicle of Higher Education posted on http://news.wfsu.org/ the number of people with master's and doctorate degrees who have had to apply for food stamps, unemployment or other assistance more than tripled between 2007 and 2010. A higher amount of people are needing a government assistance.
In a study comparing several immediate and long-term economic outcomes of early adult participation in food stamp programs, researchers found that only a small age group between 26-30 years was effected by using food stamps over time, and that any the negative outcomes found were only short-term (VartaAnian, Houser, Harness, 2011). The data suggests that the positive benefits of
