Indriya sthana is the peculiar feature of Charaka Samhita where the 12 chapters were exclusively dedicated to deal with the various aristalakshanas, instead of limiting it to a few chapters of any particular sthana like in Susrutha samhitha, AstangaHrudaya, etc. Acharya has adopted systemic way of approach for framing and understanding of Indriya sthana which could be known by the arrangement of contents of the Indriya sthana. Knowing its importance as a pre-requisite knowledge before attempting a patient or before employing the physician’s treatment skills, Acharya Charaka thought of necessity of knowledge of a separate section which is dealt with the various purushashrita (indriya and shareera related) and purushaanashrita(other than the shareera) aristalakshanas.
