Sal Saad is fourteen years old, was born on June 09 of the year 2003 in the United States. His mother and father was born and raised in Kuwait. Sal is 5.5 feet tall, has black hair, brown eyes and white complexion. His physical appearance his parents in great extent to where they all carry the same hair color, eye color, and skin complexion. Sal is currently living in a four bedroom house with his mother, his sister Miriam and his brother Mishaal. In his home, his parents have converted the the dining room into a playroom for Sal, where he have his playstation 4 and other games. Sa attend International Leadership of Texas. During the school day Sal do his homework and sit with his family for an hour or so. Sal family is a middle income, where the mother is a full time clerk, and the father is a security guard. Both parents take off on the weekend to spend quality time with Sal. I have chose to do a study on this child because he has faced many difficulties and I wanted to see if this will affect his cognitive, physical, or social-emotional development. For example he learned the stages of pregnancy, he explained it to his mother what are each state is and how the women body change in each stage and he explains why this change happen. Sal likes to read a lot of science books, so I asked him why he likes science books, he replied to me “I want to how the human body function”. Sal speaks Arabic at home, English outside his home and he is learning Chinese at school. Since freshman year, Roberto has grown up mentally and his attitude has changed. Status Quo: Sal Marcano, a boy who lives a normal life of a 13 year old. Sal lives with his mother, Cassandra in New Orleans. As a young child growing up only with a mom, Sal is very quiet at school and never causes harm to anyone. At the age of 2, Sal saw his father die due to cancer. That impacted Sal’s life and traumatized him.
During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. Within the early childhood sector, the study of children's development is vividly important as teachers learn to observe the children's individual learning patterns and habits. The practical knowledge of how to develop a child further will assist in utilising the children's skills and holistic development to their fullest potential, however, knowing how to practically aid children in the separate developmental domains is also key as individual kids need more help in some areas than others.
Having the right knowledge, skills and experience in understanding how children or young people develop are very important tools for early years practitioners. We must put to mind that each child born to this world is unique; they are born with different characters and their personalities and behaviours are formed and influenced by variety of factors. These factors may affect their ways of interacting to the environment and community or setting in which they live in. In my experience as a child care practitioner most of the time, adults mainly focus on the physical development of a child and so quick to base their conclusion or judgement on the physical aspect.
Throughout this course of four weeks, my perspective of child development has changed drastically in this short amount of time. This was my first class that was related to child development and there was a lot of material that was important to learn and understand. I came to this class with not much knowledge, but I am definitely leaving this class with an abundance of information that I will be able to use in my career or just in general. Discontinuous Within the process of child development, my view is based upon that is children are constantly growing through stages which is a discontinuous process.
