Future College 101 Student Dear future college 101 student, the four following ground rules I am going to talk about are going to help you be successful in college 101. First, show up to class, the instructors understand if you cannot be there under emergency circumstances, but not showing up because of laziness is absolutely no excuse and shows little maturity. Showing up to class is the easiest part and instructors appreciate having all of their students present. Furthermore, students need to participate actively in order to receive participation points. Be respectful to other student’s opinions and views, not everyone will have the same opinion on a subject that some students do. Show your teacher the proper attention while she is teaching, students miss out on useful information while doing other things during class. Secondly, do your work, assignments are all laid out for students in the syllabus and if you know you will not be able to show up to class work on the assignments ahead of time. The instructor allows students NQA coupons which extends the original due date of one …show more content…
This course will show videos on just about everything when it comes to being a better college student. I have learned about reading and writing strategies also. Watching the videos provided on Blackboard helped me because I am mainly a visual learner, for all you visual learners out there these videos will help you too. My most significant learning experience from this course would be learning how to do better on my tests. Future students, just breathe and relax when taking tests, if you fail there is always a way to do better. Figure out a way in which you study the best and stick with it! If I had to do anything differently while taking College 101, I would pay closer attention to due dates on my assignments. All things considered, I wish the future students of College 101 the best of
How can you graduate if you don’t show up and are actively engaged in each class? The purpose of attending college is to further education, that’s why it’s called higher education. By not going to class, one is holding themselves back from their goal. Just go to class, the professors are here to answer all the questions you have. If you feel embarrassed about asking a question, go to their office hours.
However, where the achievements of the whole class matter more than the individual. Schuman shares her personal experience of teaching and dealing with different kinds of students in hope that her intended audience will learn a lesson of the importance of class participation. Her views are very instructive, truthful, and encouraging to all college students. The article was elegantly well written by Schuman, who directed college student how to take part in the course and benefit from it.
From this class, I have learned to work with other people, including students and adults, as well as leading a team, creating ideas, and problem
While taking this course I came to a realization of many things, some being good and some being a bit disheartening. While I learned many things that can benefit me in my future career as an educator, the career I always fabled in my head as a YouTuber quickly diminished after realizing I’m vastly more awkward in recording. The lesson plan was painstakingly awkward for me to do, though it definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone and into a realization that I need to be more comfortable in front of any audience because that’s (hopefully) where my career will take me. Before taking this class I had no real prior knowledge on lenses or most things that we covered or at least not by the specific names that were given. Gender Lens, Multiple Perspectives,
I learned what it took to be successful, that I couldn 't just go through the motions. I learned one of the most important lessons of my college career thus far, and it is this- in order to be successful here (at Texas A&M), you must immerse yourself in every lesson, every lecture, every class. Everything must be 100%, and not a second should go to waste. Each moment is a moment to learn and to better yourself and your knowledge. There will be concepts that you just don 't understand, and when that road block is reached, immediate action must be taken; there 's a commonly spoken line that I never really listened to until recently, and that line is, "don 't be afraid to ask for help!"
This year in Humanities my confidence in sharing my opinion with the class dramatically increased due to the great work environment you provided. Going into this semester being my first year in college I was not planning on speaking up and giving my opinion in class. I had been a to myself person throughout high school and to some extent I still am but what i've learned is when I ask questions and give my opinion not only does it help me but it also gives the rest of the class a different perspective. Now with my new perspective as a student I believe it's my job in a way to bring up points because there's a good chance someone else in the class has a similar question and if I remain silent as well as my classmates we are only hurting ourselves. As a class I believe that we had very good attendance, personally I didn't miss a class.
It’s extremely helpful for students who are new to a university. Human Development (emphasis on Early Childhood) my major and looking at all of the classes I’ve taken, there is one class in particular (human development 3303)
Being disrespectful is the easiest way to make your teacher angry, so if you were wondering how to do that? Just use your cell phone. For example, when I was in level 106, unconsciously I opened my phone during the class time, and my teacher saw me do that; consequently, the reflection of that settled its shadow my participation grade, but most importantly, I lost a huge amount of positive impression. Being lazy is the second step on your road to achieve your goal. For example, if you are given homework, it is extremely beneficial to neglect it.
Very rarely do you ever raise your hand and participate in class because you are too scared of saying the wrong answer or because you do not feel comfortable talking in front of the class. Developing good communication skills will help you become a better student and succeed in class. Ask questions when you are unsure of what the teacher is explaining and you need clarification because there is a good chance others are in the same
College may be very different to be successful due to many distractions or behaviors. According to research, only about 56% of students earn a degree within six years which means that 44% is still in school or either has dropped out already (Desilver, 2014; Puckett, 2009). Many of us have passed high school without a problem but college is way more different and difficult. I’ve learned with some experience that in college you have to be more responsible, you have to be more organizing, and more efficient on the work you turn in. The three main ways I believe can help anyone be successful in college is, self-determination, time management, and organization.
and that having only cell phone to write important appointment is not enough. The ninth thing I learned in college is to not procrastinate too much especially in the final few weeks, because that would alway give me a hard time in focusing on which assignment to do first. And it will leave my with load of work with little time in my hand. The tenth and the final thing that I learned in my first semester is that all my essaye that I would write in future must be writing in formal way. because I am a college student and I should start to write like a college student level and not high school
Step one is to attend all of the classes. One may think that skipping out on class once or twice is fine, but then once or twice then becomes a few here and there, which then leads to being gone all the time. It may be the boring class that no one ever pays attention in, or it may be the class that is really easy to understand. Either way, students need to get to class. Being in class and absorbing the material is a great way to understand what is going on.
Taking this class has had a profound impact on me. I have learned how to properly study for a college class. Also, I learned how to effectively communicate and reach out to my professor. This was my first college course which gave me a learning experience about psychology and myself as a student. I have learned how to manage my time, study in ways that are better for me, focus on the task in front of me, and reaching out and taking opportunities.
Student Engagement A good teacher should know how to engage students in learning activities and be able to respond to diverse students needs in the classroom. The classroom observations I have seen these past week has shown me examples of good teachers. In all the classes I observed the students sat quietly and were always ready to raise their hands and answer questions. In my kindergarten class all the students were really into their assignments and wanted approval of their work from their teacher.
Usually, I prefer to sit in the back of the class and not interact with my peers, or teacher, especially when it’s a whole group discussion. Up until this year, I have never been one to participate in class, rather it be asking questions or sharing my opinion. I always had a fear of speaking my mind and could never get the words out. It has been a mix of new found confidence and preparation that has allowed me to truly engage in the conversation happening in front of me. Although I felt like I was making great progress when it came to speaking in class, I feel like I did not use my resources effectively.
