Most of the popular spices come from tropical regions, usually the Far East but sometimes from Africa or from Central and Latin America. Sassafras is different in that it comes from North America. The tree that produces it comes belongs to the Lauraceae family that includes cinnamon and the bay trees that give us bay leaves.
The sassafras tree is found mainly in the Eastern United States. Sassafras was one of the Jamestown Colony's first exports in the 17th century. The colonists learned about the tree's value from the Native Americans who used it to ward off illnesses. The Europeans would come to see it as a wonder drug that was capable of curing numerous diseases. Sassafras was so popular at this time that it would be the second most important export from America. In the 1960s, the Food and Drug Administration would ban the use of safrole. The result is that the makers of both sassafras teas and root beer had to remove safrole from their products. Both beverages are now made with artificial sassafras flavorings or sassafras extract that contains no safrole.
Ground sassafras leaves are called file powder, which is used as a thickener.

Safrole
On its own, Safrole is said to be effective for treating several health conditions including scurvy and rheumatism.
Safrole is controversial because it is a carcinogen and is capable of inducing mutation. Other reasons to exercise moderation include the fact that overuse can result in damage to the kidneys and liver.
In December of 1674, John Sassamon set off to, allegedly, warn Governor Josiah Winslow that, “the Wampanag sachem (New England Indian hereditary leader) King Philip […] was preparing for war against the English settlers” (p. 1). Unfortunately, Sassamon did not return from his journey and, on January 29, 1675, was found dead in an icy pound with his “hat, a gun, and a brace of ducks” nearby (p. 1). On March 1, 1675, three Wampanoag Indians – Tobias, Mattashunnamo, and Wampapaquan – were indicted for Sassamon’s murder (p. 100). Based on New England’s legal system, Tobias, Mattashunnamo, and Wampapaquan did receive a fair trial in that the case was tried in a General Court, and not dealt with privately between the Indian groups as was customary (p. 103).
Mark Seliger was born in Amarillo, Texas in 1959. He lived with his parents and his two older brothers and one younger sister. In 1964 they moved to Houston, Texas. Seliger was quite involved in Little League baseball. His parents signed him up to play when he was young.

Caudillos are mainly the ranchers that lived on the plains and made a living from the land. Buenos Aires was a very civilized society compared to internal Argentine area. My opinion is that this vast area of plains wouldn 't have been civilized if it wasn 't for these gaucho leaders causing problems and the impact of Buenos Aries upon the lacking internal Argentine area. Argentinas vast area of ranches and farming potential could have been utilized to attribute to further success of Buenos Aries I feel like.

Solomon Radasky was born in Warsaw, Poland, on May 17, 1910. He worked in the Praga district of Warsaw with the family business of making fur coats. He had 2 brothers, 3 sisters, and a mother and father who lived in the same area as Solomon. He remembers that whenever a Jewish holiday came in his town, the stores closed for the day and everyone celebrated the Jewish holiday. In his early 30’s, the Nazis began to force many Jewish families, along with the Radasky family, into the newly established ghettos.

ANDREAS VESALIUS Andreas Vesalius, the father of modern anatomy was born in Brussels in 1514 and died in 1564. Throughout his life of 49 years, Vesalius challenged medical theories with a thirst for learning and discovery. Born into a wealthy family with his father as a pharmacist at the court of Margret of Austria, he received a privileged education from six years old. In 1537, Vesalius gained his doctorate and became a professor of Surgery and Anatomy at the University of Padua. He valued lifelong learning which contributed to his revolutionary works and methods demonstrating the spirit of a Renaissance man.
The Alaskan village of Shishmaref is located on an island Sarichef, which is five miles away from the Seward Peninsula. Shishref is an Inupiat village and, it has been inhabited for several centuries. The men in Shishmaref have hunted for seals by driving out over the sea ice with snowmobiles. Since the early nineteen-nineties, villagers started to notice that the sea level was changing. The ice was starting to form later in the fall, and also to break up earlier in the spring.
For my constellation, I chose Ursa Major, or the "Big Dipper. " The reason for this is because it has always been one of my favorite constellations. I can almost always see it in the sky where I live. It also means a lot to me as one of my friends from childhood who had passed away, had one of those stars named after him. As war broke out in 1914, Sassoon, happily marched to war like many other young enlisted British men (Wilson). As the war continued Sassoon grew to hate it more and more. Through the sharing of his memories in poetry, Siegfried Sassoon brings to life the vivid realities of war.
Today we will take a look at cinnamon, this like all spices have a story behind it which dates back to 2,000 B.C. Cinnamon is the inner layer of the evergreen tree, the spice is mostly harvested in the rainy season when the bark is said to be saturated with water, making it easier to work
