Every night, a green light at the end of Daisy and Tom Buchanan’s dock keeps Gatsby aware of how close he is to having Daisy: “Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us” (Fitzgerald 189). The whole source of the American dream is want, wealth and love are just an effect of desire. All dreams start with the want for a different way of life, which is made available by money or love, but it is the initial desire of something new that starts the dream: “In the 1920s, the American Dream started morphing from the right to create a better life to the desire to acquire material things. This change was described in the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby” (Amadeo). Desire is the trigger that motivates the American dream.
Hawthorne intentionally chooses the setting for chapters 16-19 to be set in the forest. The forest is Hester’s and Dimmesdale’s secret hideout. In the woods, they are able to shut out society and secretly focus on their love for each other. The forest has elements that gives Hawthorne the ability to include pathetic fallacy into the story and manipulate how he tells the story. After many years, Hester is finally happy, but she only expresses this feeling when she is around the only people who she truly loves and cares about, which is Pearl and Dimmesdale.
The second instance in which St. Elizabeth exhibits this attribute is when she said. “We mustn’t refuse anyone who earnestly wants to help us. It would mean eating less, but we’ll manage”. Furthermore the name that she wished to give her order suggests that a charitable ideology was central to her life. These examples of Mother Seton’s kindness coalesce into a vivid picture of her

In Catching Fire , Suzanne Collins uses foreshadowing in numerous occasions . For instance , while in the woods , Katniss meets Bonnie and Twill who were the first to point out to Katniss the possibility that District 13 might still exist and that the footage the Capitol uses every year is a fake. Through Bonnie and Twill , Katniss also learns that her mockingjay pin has become the symbol of the resistance and that she is not alone in her resistance but has people on her side (138). Furthermore , Plutarch Heavensbee uses foreshadowing to drop casual hints to Katniss about the layout of the arena by showing her his watch and by telling her that his meeting "starts at midnight" which later helps Katniss , Peeta and Finnik in navigating the arena(82). Prior to the 3rd Quarter Quill, District 3 tributes Wiress and Beetee teach Katniss how to detect the presence of a force field , like the one surrounding the Training Center and later the arena .The force field can be detected as it causes " rippling in tiny visible waves" in the air (228).

She felt like the only way to redeem herself was to make up for that loss by giving someone else the opportunity to live a long and healthy life. Giving Helen that opportunity would take away the guilt off her chest and would result in Annie finally discovering redemption. In addition, just as Annie was about to notify the Kellers that she was quitting the job, Kate tells Annie that “before you came we spoke of putting her in an asylum.”(675) This reminds Annie of how her brother was sent asylum, and she doesn’t want that to happen to Helen. Annie redeems herself by staying and helping Helen so that she doesn’t have to be sent to an asylum like her brother did. Annie Sullivan has experienced self redemption in this story by overcoming her haunting memories.
