Scholar-Practitioner Model

English 1301 has definitely grown me as a writer and I can see how I have improved as a writer. One aspect in how my writing has grown is in the ability for myself to expand on my ideas. Honestly, the first paper that was assigned to me frightened me a little bit because of the four page minimum requirement. Never have I wrote a paper this long because I typically just write the basic requirements and never expand and elaborate on my ideas. However, it forced me to expand my ideas and as time progressed, this became very simple to execute. Now, I believe I cans successfully explain a perspective and am able to elaborate my ideas in order to create a better argument and piece. How I believe my writing should continue to grow is by always striving

According to McClintock’s scholar-practitioner model, it expresses an ideal of professional excellence grounded in theory and research, informed by experiential knowledge, and motivated by personal values, political commitments, and ethical conduct (McClintock, 2004). As for Capella's scholar-practitioner learning model, learners acquire additional research skills, apply appropriate theory and research strategies, and share knowledge through scholarly publications and presentations (Capella University, 2003). When one looks deeper within both models, they get to view the many similarities that each hold to one another. Both reflect on how theory and research influence professionals to strive and succeed within their work.The aspects that McClintock’s model supports Capella’s range from acquiring and processing information to extracting and evaluating questions. This shows that as scholar- practitioners we are continuing to learn and be educated.

Over the course of the semester, my main goal was to become a more precise writer and develop my identity as a writer. According too, the Portfolio Letter assignment sheet, becoming a better writer consists of precise planning, draft and revising. It also includes understanding a variety of academic genres by examining the basic characteristics that defines each type. In order too efficiently meet my goal of becoming a better writer, it was very important to have my work evaluated by others and myself as well. The use of rhetorical knowledge, critical thinking, reading and writing all are the important aspects in this course. To write an effective work, the author must go through the arduous task of planning, drafting, revising, and editing. Each one of these procedure takes time, effort, and patience. The Practitioner-scholar model is a learning model used in higher education and is an advanced educational model that has its focus on the practical application of scholarly knowledge (McClintock, (2003). Scholar practitioners are committed to learning new ways to be effective. They do this by using scholarly research and practical application to help clients and colleagues solve problems within their field. Their professional activities and the knowledge they develop are based on collaborative learning. This learning can then create new ideas and knowledge.

I promised myself that I will learn a new skill this year. I resolve to learn how to write with purpose. My mission is to figure out how to express myself with conviction. I refuse to write limp sentences but instead I will write sentences that pack a punch. I find other people’s writing impressive. I want to write impressively as well. Most of all, I want to write sentences that make me proud to have penned them. Nowadays every one is a writer. We write on social media every day, we send emails and short messages. However, we are not all great writers, this is the reserve of the few that put in effort and can cleverly coin a phrase.

My journey in this English 3001 course during the past ten weeks, and over the course of taking is English class I have grown and learned more that I thought it is necessary for me to know as a student. I have improved in my overall writing skills because if you look at my second in-class essay and the rest of my essay you will see that I have made progress and improvement compare to my diagnostic essay and the first in-class essay. Moreover, now that I have completed the English course my skills are better that I am capable to meet the university standard writing requirements. The ability to write well is very useful for our personal and professional lives. It helps students, business people, politicians, writers, bloggers, marketers and everyone who has ever needed to arrange words together to convey ideas or opinions. The written word has become an essential means of social communication: mastery of it helps you to enthrall and persuade an audience that would look upon you favorably in return.

The method of research, citing facts, and brainstorming ideas was very intense in this class. Reading various arguments debating the topic I want to write on, was very challenging and time consuming. In this reflection essay I want to show how researching process was vital on changing my writing style. Also, what I’ve learned in English 105 class after a great summer semester with lots of material to learn from. Researching was drastically important, making every paper I made heavily based on research. Research is in fact the scientific method of writing and the way to make a certain topic clear with the support of citation.

Now days the Professional development is essential for our life, it can provide the drive to progress careers, kept across the industry competitive and, ultimately, can make you more employable.
