“I believe that some of this acting-out behavior is due to the pressure that is starting to be applied when the child starts in middle school and life-goals start to be identified.” (A Generation Struggling) In this example, this is not accurate because the rich kids actually can have standards to become successful, the Greasers do not set up expectations in education for themselves, they are rather expected to be drop out nobodies. This quote is reasonable because yes, Socs can be pressured ad not feel accepted or worth their parent’s expectations, which may be very difficult to deal with, but the Greasers don’t even possess standards of achievement in their lives. "Unfortunately, upon graduating from high school, a growing percentage of these affluent youth will discover the world is not circling around them. For those who enroll in college the message is “Work Hard and Party Hard” which may be their academic undoing as they fail to attend class or turn in assignments. Expectations for good grades may create stress on the student as they (or their parents) can no longer bully the professor into assigning a higher grade.” This opposing thesis is not valid because these kids which “struggle” with academic success, which is a struggle with some of heir lives, focus on the fact that they are so pressured to do well in school without their parents and have to be a exceeding well off person based off their success.. in which they should be grateful on of their greater problems.
This disorder is diagnosed by a medical professional. Generalized Anxiety Disorder is noticeable yet not noticeable. The symptoms are common difficulties found in young children all the way up to adults. Children, teenagers and adults are often found panicking over a situation or not being able to concentrate in school or work. Now a days, teeangers are expected to do and know things so much more earlier than before, leading to anxiety as said, “ their anxieties and worries are often associated with the quality of performance or competence at school or sporting events” (“Generalized Anxiety Disorder” np).
One of the main ways is to have students rest. But when kid still go to school with concussions and get the same amount of school work it can sometimes make the injury worse. For instance, in the Newsela article “Students With Brain Injuries Struggle when They Return to school” it states “ About one third of students who recovered quickly had headaches and concentration problems that hurt their school work.”This proves that students with concussions should be treated with extra care and support and shouldn’t be getting so much school work. Also, in the newsela article it also says “ Researchers say schools need to do more to help students with brain injuries. They say many schools don’t realize that students with concussions need some of the same kinds of help they give students with learning disabilities.” This also supports my reasoning because without the help you need you won’t make the injury any
Standardized testing evaluates a student’s performance on one particular day ,Many student do not take tests well or learns the same way. Standardized tests are normally the same, some students can’t understand the tests the same as others. There are student who need extra directions, many student will get anxiety taking the test and it hinders their performance. Standardized testing causes many teachers to only “teach to the tests” According the Columbia University article. This practice can hinder a student’s overall learning potential. It hinders the teachers to be creative and the teaching materials being the same can get boring.
In conclusion, social promotion ultimately hurts students far more than it helps. Social promotion creates perpetual cycles of unpreparedness for students as they continue to fall behind in classes. The better solution for struggling students is extra help and counseling. If a student struggles in a particular subject to the point of failure, they should be given extra help and more broken down explanations of the concepts. Students should not be passed into harder classes when they couldn’t manage the previous
As the school year starts, students seem to start off the year well but end up getting worn out as time goes by. Why? Some students have the belief that they were born smart and seem to give when faced with a tough situation in fear that it will make them look dumb, so they simply give up. However, it has been proven that having a fixed mindset can actually lead to failure. Student success is founded upon the encouragement teachers and parents give to students to have a growth mindset rather than have a fixed mindset and not accepting challenges.
They often feel rushed in teaching all the required information in one school year because of the time spent reviewing forgotten information (Priddy). Teachers are also pressured to cover certain lessons and topic for each grade. With time spent reviewing lost information they feel rushed to catch up and meet the requirements. Students are stressed during the school year because they have too few breaks. Stress from school can lead students to a lack of motivation.
Academic stress from the intensive demands of developmental and academic tasks greatly influences the mental health of students (Guo, Wang, Johnson & Diaz, 2011). As well, school curriculum has become increasingly difficult. Through the intense modules, student’s mental and physical health are deteriorating (Guo, Wang, Johnson & Diaz, 2011). A study conducted revealed that due to the intense curriculum in school, students are sleeping less during the week than when reported in previous years (Edens, 2006). Not only does school effect their physical being, but due to this, their academic performance decreases.
I agree with her because we aren’t all perfect and sometimes we need that extra lesson or we need to repeat the material again. In middle school some of my friends were afraid of flunking the grade because they didn’t want to repeat the grade and of embarrassment. I believe that make them repeat
Schools in the United States should require mental health screenings; mental health problems can start very early on in life, school violence could be prevented, and suicide rates could go down. A staggering number of children are being diagnosed with severe mental health disorders each year. From 2012 to 2015 “Rates of youth with severe depression increased from 5.9% ...to 8.2%... 76% of youth are left with no or insufficient treatment” (MHA). Mental illness is becoming much more common; people should start recognizing it and
