Many people argue that the public school system does not help students get ready for real world jobs. Testing in schools is the biggest issue people have; students try to cram knowledge into their brain for a test the usually forget all the information soon after. This tactic is used by students because that is the only time they will ever need that information. If students were taught tips and skills that could help them succeed in future jobs, students would cherish those skills and be able to use them to be successful in jobs. The Denver post produced a cartoon that was sketched by Mike Keefe, to show how kids are not prepared for jobs because of the school system. Mike Keefe managed to squeeze humor, emotions, and effective word choice into a newspaper cartoon to make people aware of the fact that school testing doesn’t prepare people for professional jobs.
Mike Keefe was a cartoonist for the Denver Post newspaper from around 1975 to 2011. During his cartooning years, “he has won top honors in the Fischetti, National Headliners Club, Society of Professional Journalists and Best of the West contests. He was a John S. Knight Fellow at Stanford University and is a past president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. He was a juror for the 1997 and 1998 Pulitzer Prizes in Journalism.
