In ‘A Christmas Carol’, Dickens presents Ignorance and Want in a metaphorical fashion, depicting them as children. This is done in such a manner as to shock and appall the reader, leading to greater emotional investment.

No one was known to dislike kids more than Ebenezer Scrooge. In A Christmas Carol, Scrooge was always negative. Around Christmas time, especially, Scrooge disliked children. Then, Scrooge was visited by three spirits: past, present, and future. As these spirits showed Scrooge events, Scrooge started seeing life in a different perspective. Throughout the story, Scrooge had encounters with children. In the beginning, Scrooge was unreasonable to a carolor. Towards the end, Scrooge’s development was shown when a boy approached him, and Scrooge acted generous. All in all, Scrooge was known to not tolerate children, but with his change of heart, Scrooge now cares for them.

Many film and literature characters fail to leave an impact on the reader. This is not the case for Charles Dickens’ character Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol and Frank Capra’s creation of a character, George Bailey from It’s a Wonderful Life. Both protagonists are beloved characters, but have drastic similarities and differences. Ebenezer Scrooge and George Bailey are best compared by their outlook on life, time spent with the spirits, and each character’s transformation in the story.

In the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three spirits, past, present, and future. When the spirits take Scrooge to the past present and future, Scrooge undergoes a major transformation Dickens demonstrates this by showing that Scrooge changed from a lonely, greedy man, that didn’t like Christmas and dislike people to a generous man that likes Christmas and was more accepting of other people. Dickens shows this change through Scrooge’s actions while traveling through time with the spirits.

Maya Angelou, an American poet, once said, “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” There are many people who don’t do anything to change the things they dislike. On the other hand some people over time change themselves. While Scrooge looked at his past, present, and future he realized he needs to change the way he treats people. In the play A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, Scrooge was guided by 3 spirits teaching him he needs to change to keep people close to him and love him.

In the movie and play A Christmas Carol Ebeneezer Scrooge discovers how his actions now could affect the afterlife. Both of these formats have many similarities, like how all the ghosts of Christmas are described and seen in the same way. Both have the Ghost of Christmas Past very bright, a woman, and held holly. The Ghost of Christmas Present is wearing a large green robe, very tall and mighty figure, and wears a beard. The Ghost of Christmas Future is black, frightening, and has bony fingers. In both,he’s scared the most by Christmas Future, shot down by The Ghost of Christmas Present, most contempt with the The Ghost of Christmas Past.

Scrooge’s first visit with The Ghost of Christmas Past is to see his younger self when he was just a boy. Upon seeing his old childhood town, he started to cry, with which he dismissed his tear as being “a pimple”. They visited the school he used to attend, and Scrooge, knowing that “a solitary child”, being himself, “is left there still”, started sobbing. He saw himself as a boy, and “he said, in pity for his former self, “Poor boy!” and cried again”.

It was nothing scarier to me than waking up on Christmas morning and your beautiful Christmas tree and toys are gone. My biggest fear when I was a child was the Grinch. I was seven years old when I watched my first scary Christmas movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. I am the baby in my family so the Grinch did not bother my older siblings. I started to have bed dreams about the Grinch and realized he was my worst nightmare. The Grinch had a big effect on me as a child, especially around Christmas time. I did not believe in Santa, but I did believe that it was a heartless monster that would come steal the tree and all the gifts that was under it. The word “greedy” perfectly describes Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge in the movie and play of A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens. Greed can be caused by a countless amount of things. It can be called almost a disease. It is terrible thing that can corrupt even the best of people. It can lead to severe consequences if the greedy person doesn’t change for the better. To stop being greedy, sometimes, the appropriate measure could be almost flipping their lifestyle upside down. While the movie and play of A Christmas Carol are very similar, there are several differences.
