“Scott Peterson was like the other weirdos who simply erased companions from their lives, Strong says, comparing the Modesto case to more than 50 others in her recently released 337-page hardback published by San Francisco's Jossey-Bass, a Wiley
On October 28, 2007, 23-year-old Stacy Ann Cales Peterson, of Bolingbrook, Illinois was reported missing by her sister. Stacy was the fourth wife of Bolingbrook Police Sergeant Drew Peterson, who was 30 years his junior. They married in fall 2003 and had two children together, a son born in 2003 and a daughter born in 2005. The disappearance of Stacy raised suspicion of foul play among investigators, family and friends based on the fact Drew Peterson’s third wife was found dead just three years before (FindLaw, 2015).

The conduct of the defendant’s in the 1971 Washington Court of appeals case, State v. Williams, while neither advisable nor necessarily admirable, was justified given their valid concerns about losing possibly losing custody of their son if they sought medical help due to their Native American heritage. Walter Williams and Bernice Williams made the fateful decision to not take their 17-month old son, who was thought to only have minor tooth-ache, to the hospital due to concerns that such hospital visit would result in them losing custody of their son. Unfortunately, for the co-defendants, their son’s illness was much more severe than initially thought and their decision not to seek care resulted in both the son’s death and a manslaughter conviction

In Culture of Death, Wesley J. Smith is very clear about his opinions on where the future of healthcare is headed. In my essay, I will be discussing Smiths’ statements regarding assisted suicide, euthanasia and removal of food and fluid and why he believes the government should put an end to legalizing these practices. I will also discuss the important cases of Annette Corriveau, Robert Latimer, and others. Wesley Smith is a bioethicist and human rights activist that advocates for the illegalization of assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Dred Scott v. Sandford was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court on US labor law and constitutional law. The case was decided in 1857 with a 7–2 decision. Scholars today believe it is one of the worst Supreme Court decisions of all time. Dred Scott was born a slave in Virginia in the 1790’s. In 1830, he was bought by Dr. John Emerson.
The aftermath of the Kansas-Nebraska Act began the violence known as Bleeding Kansas, which was the result of countless conflicts of pro-slaver and anti-slavery settlers. To make matters worse three years later, the Supreme Court issued its decision on the Dred Scott v. Sandford case. Chief Justice Roger B. Taney stated, “… the right of property in a slave is distinctly and expressly affirmed in the Constitution. The right to traffic in it, like an ordinary article of merchandise and property, was guarantied to the citizens of the United States, in every State that might desire it, for twenty years. And the Government in express terms is pledged to protect it in all future time….”11
The Dred Scott Decision & History Dred Scott was a African American born in 1795 (1800) to a slave family, in Southampton County, Virginia. Dred Scott was owned by Peter Blow and his family who later moved to Alabama then to Missouri. In the year 1832 Peter passed away Scott was then bought by an army surgeon Dr. John Emerson. In 1836 Scott fell in love with Harriet Robinson, Dr. Emerson bought her and they soon were wed. Soon after Emerson took both slaves and his family with him to the states of Illinois and Wisconsin both of which were free states at the time. John Emerson most likely didn't see this to be an issue since he did not consider himself to live in the state, only to be stationed there.

The South was reluctant to give up slavery for various reasons. The Dred Scott v. Sandford case set precedent for other cases with similar conflicts. This case also provided reasons for the Civil War to occur between the North and South.
