I've always had a strong love for animals and learning about all the strange things they do and the way they think. Whenever I learn something new about them it makes my idea of the world change, and truly opens my eyes to the world around me. Because of that on my tenth birthday, my parents decided to take me to Sea World. I was excited not only because I was going to see all the different sea animals but because I was going to see Shamo, an orca whale they do shows with at Sea World. When we got there, it was all so overwhelming seeing such giant sea animals swimming in even larger tanks filled with other colorful and strange sea animals and being able to stand within three feet of them and watch. When it was finally time for the show to start we found our seats and waited for everyone else to find there’s. My parents sat far up so I decided to get up and stand on the lower stairs in front of the tank with the other kids so that when Shamo splashed water onto the audience I would get sprayed too. When the show started I couldn't believe what I was seeing, such a large animal jumping out of the water so high, doing flips, waving at us and splashing us with water. When the show was finally over I was soaking wet with a bright smile on my face, it was one of the most incredible things …show more content…
The documentary didn't leave anything out and showed us everything they put these animals through to get them into the pools at amusement parks like Sea World. We don’t think much about how they get the animals into these big pools or where they came from when we’re watching them swim around, but little do we know these animals were kidnapped. The reason why I say kidnapped is that these animals aren’t taken at just any age. They usually target the young, because they’re easier to capture and
California’s OSHA investigated and fined the park $375. SeaWorld responded by changing the procedures for such exercises”. In 2006 two patrons were bit by dolphins at the Dolphin Cove exhibit. A dolphin bit a boy at the petting attraction while under the supervision of a SeaWorld Employee.
I did not see any dolphins in the morning but my grandparents told me that we were going to go see some dolphins on a dolphin cruise. Because Gulf Shores is on the Gulf of Mexico dolphins like to ride the waves when boats go out. We drove to the dolphin cruise place and we got on the boat. There were lots of old people on the boat. My sisters and I were the only kids on the boat.
In the article, “Hunted for Fun, Left to Die” by Lauren Tarshis, Hardy Jones and the WSPA had to take many steps in order to rescue the two dolphins, Nica and Blue Fields. To start, in the introduction, scientists from WSPA made sure the dolphins were stabilized. The scientists fed them fish filled with nutrients, and gave them gentle words to soothe them. Along with calming them, the WSPA took the dolphins on an extraordinary journey. The journey included a boat and helicopter ride, which the dolphins survived, to the spot in the Caribbean Sea heading to where they had been captured.
It 's clear that the living conditions that these animals are forced to live in are just plain unethical, but something even worse is the relationship between animals in captivity and a spike in their stress levels. “It 's irrefutable that many zoos drive animals insane -- and if that isn 't cruel, I don 't know what is” (Masci) For starters, SeaWorld is one of the most notorious places in the world accused of stressing out their animals. Since the tanks are so small the whales tend to get very stressed out, and some former workers even say that the whales seem to go psychotic. “ If you were on a bathtub for 25 years, don 't you think you get a little irritated, aggravated, maybe a little psychotic ” (“Blackfish”)? A clear example is when one of the
It’s weird to think that a floppy stuffed animal can have such an important place in a child's heart, but it can. My favorite thing when I was a child was a stuffed elephant named Lumpy. He was named after a character in Winnie the Pooh. He was blue and flopped over whenever I tried to sit him up. I always had him with me when I slept.
Guests can log on and track the progress of a rescued animal at any time. This will allow guests to form a bond with these animals and will in turn make them feel involved with the Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release process. Not only will the guests continue to visit the permanent residents, but now guests will be inclined to visit the rehabilitated animals before the animals are released. To help keep the focus on Research, Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release for many years to come, SeaWorld can teach the next generation. Allow teens and college students to attend summer camps hosted by
The purpose of this article was to get the news of seaworld’s neglect and abuse out in hopes that it will be stopped. The article gives direct quotes and names their source. This article has helped my research by giving me specific stories of abuse. The stories found in this article will
In conclusion Blackfish is gives audiences a shocking, aggressive and deeply compelling look into cruel practices of marine parks for decades that will change the way you look at captive/trained killer whales and other animals. In watching this documentary has significantly opened my eyes regarding the brutal treatment and methods of capturing wild animals giving me a greater sympathy for orcas in parks such as SeaWorld. This startling documentary will surprise audiences as Cowperthwaite is unrelenting in showing the fatal consequences of keeping killer whales in captivity while also critiquing of the cruel and immoral practises of
Do you remember that day that you and your family took a trip to that one park? That one that you got to see many different types of sea animals, dolphins putting on shows, and getting to even interact with the sea animals in a great learning experience. That park is SeaWorld. When you were there, you might have not noticed the stuff that was happening behind the scenes. Lately, the animals have been very sad and not living healthy lives.
In 2013, the documentary called Blackfish was released, a story about a killer whale that over the years at SeaWorld killed several people. It highlighted some of the major problems with animals in captivity. SeaWorld, known for having several different animal attractions; Dolphin Cove, Dolphin Nursery, Orca Underwater Viewing, Shark Encounter, Wild Arctic (Habitat) and many more. The organization first started with the intention of learning more about animals in order to educate the public about different behaviors of each animal. Trainers at Seaworld are offered the opportunity to get hands-on training with animals and are eventually are allowed to entertain the public with the skills they have acquired.
The viewer of this documentary is going to believe an actual research or specialist over a simple animal trainer. The former trainers in the film admit to believing what they’re told by SeaWorld and now they know that the information SeaWorld told them was false. Seaworld made another false accusation when trainer Keltie Bryne fell into the pool and was pulled under by the six-ton orca Tilikum. Sealand of the Pacific said she drowned, but many people witnessed her getting pulled under. There were photos and videos, but Sealand continued to make this claim until they were eventually shut down and Tilikum moved to SeaWorld
But children are blind to this fact, as SeaWorld is a corrupt organization that is excellent at covering up their unfair treatment, such as abuse, kidnapping animals, and deaths. SeaWorld has been proven to abuse their animals. Imagine living in a bathtub your whole life; that’s the size that tanks feel to
The target audience of this documentary is the general public that includes a big emphasis on the customers of SeaWorld. The filmmakers are trying to inform the public of the inhumane treatment and the conditions that the orcas face while at amusements parks such as SeaWorld. As described in the film, orcas are seen as intellectual animals that are aware of their surroundings. Because of their intellect, orcas don’t belong in a place SeaWorld and should be released.
Last summer I went on vacation to Puerto Rico with my cousins. We did really fun things like snorkeling, a boat ride, and eating at many wonderful places. Although all those sound really fun, I want to talk about the time I met the most cutest, most fluffiest, most friendliest, animal ever. It all started off on a breezy summer night while my cousins and family were chillin’ at our hotel pool.
This is exactly how animals held captive in zoos and sea-parks feel. Zoos generally hold a variety of animals for public display, also known as “zoological parks.” On the other hand, sea-parks, hold fish and amphibians. These parks that exhibit animals are inhumane and barbaric. Vulnerable creatures are being abused daily and few seem to care about this issue.
