I. Sea Sponges. Plant or Animal?
A. Sea Sponges are animals.
1. Sponges do not have eyes, ears, brains, arms, legs, nerves, muscles or organs!
2. “Sea Sponges are the simplest of multi-cellular organisms (Sponges/ Ocean of Hope).” B. The oldest fossils on the planet are sponges.
1. Sea Sponges have been in the ocean for 600 million years
BODY
I. Sponge’s belong to the scientific classification “Porifera,” which literally means “pore-bearing,” and refers to the many tiny holes on all sponges.
A. Sponges grow in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and textures.
B. “There are about 5,000 species of sea sponges worldwide (Sponges/ Ocean of Hope).”
C. Only about 150 of sponges are found in freshwater lakes and rivers
II. Types of Sponges
A. Sponges are classified within four different classes:

Calcareous sponge’s skeleton is made of calcareous, star shaped structures or spicules. These usually have three points, but some species have two or four pointed spicules.
C. Glass sponges (class Hexactinellida) are found deep in the ocean. Their tissues contain glass-like structural particles made of silica.
D. The Demospongia is by far the most diverse sponge group.
1. “Greater than 90 percent of the 5,000 known living sponge species are demosponges (Demospongia).”
2. Demosponge skeletons are composed of spongin fibers.
3. The freshwater sponges (family Spongillidae) belong to this class. The common bath sponges, and most of the other sponges used commercially belong to this class.
E. Encrusting sponges have amorphous bodies. They cling to surfaces like rock forming a carpetlike layer over them, spreading much like moss over surfaces on the ocean floor.
(Transition: Visual aid. Example of Barrel Sponge, Toxic Finger Sponge, Elephant Gun, Vase Sponge, and Tube Sponges.}
III. Sponges are amazing filters
A. Sea Sponges have pores that draw in water through their body to their central cavity.
B. The cavity is lined with collar cells which collect the
Terrestrial isopods, commonly known as sowbugs, and pillbugs, given the nickname, roly-polies. Pillbugs develop this name because they have atendency to roll up when they feel like they have been threatened, on the other hand sowbugs do not show this behavior. Pillbugs belong to the members of Phylum Arthropoda and to the class of Crustacea. They share the class of Crustacea with many other unique animals such as the crayfish, lobster, shrimps, crayfish, and barnacles. Pillbugs have a hard segmented exoskeleton, 2 antennas, 2 compound eyes, and seven pairs of
Using the 0.1 M stock solutions of sugar, a 0.01 M dilution was created for each sugar type by adding water to the stock solution 9 out of 1. A 20 mL dilution was made for each trial. The same volume of each solution (10 mL -5 mL ) was added to the green sponges to create four group; Group 1: Sponge with 10 Ml 0.01 M glucose solution, Group 2: Sponge with 10 mL 0.01 M fructose solution, Group 3: Sponge with 10mL 0.01 M sucrose solution, Group 4 (Control): Sponge with 10 mL water. The four sponges were placed every 90 degrees on the edge of the arena. The isopods were placed into their environment for one to two minutes to acclimate with the environment.
The black nerite was observed 76 times in the upper 25 meters of the rock pools, which has been defined as the supralittoral zone. The black nerite has adapted in many ways to successfully survive the harsh biotic and abiotic conditions associated with the supralittoral zone. The supralittoral zone has a categorically large amount of predation, and the black nerites have adapted structurally to deal with this. They have developed a tough, dark shell which not only prevents predators from accessing the snail inside, but acts as a camouflage, matching the dark coloured rocks. This tough shell also helps the nerites survive in the often dry and hot supralittoral zone, where a decrease from 83%RH to 75%RH was seen at Hastings Point.
Consider the lobster Everyone knows what a lobster is. A lobster is a marine crustacean of the family Homaridae, characterized by five pairs of jointed legs, the first pair terminating in large pincerish claws used for subduing prey. Like many other species of benthic carnivore, Lobsters and are both hunters and scavengers. Wallace talks about the MLF know as the Maine Lobster Festival.
“Rockfish come in more than 100 species and many different shapes, sizes and color patterns.” Typically, radiant! Few other organisms live here too.
SpongeBob SquarePants is accused of killing his boss Mr. Krabs; we are here to prove that SpongeBob is innocent. SpongeBob is a kind sponge that works at the Krusty Krab as a fry cook. We will prove that he handles all the cooking utensils thus his fingerprints will be found on these items. Witnesses place SpongeBob at the Krusty Krab before Mr. Krabs' death. SpongeBob admits he was in the restaurant, and that they had an argument, and that he became so angry he quit his job and left.
Emma Rosandich Mahziar Sakiani Period 1 Bubble Lab Report Background Research: Bubbles are basically a very thin film of soapy water that is enclosing air that forms a hollow sphere with an iridescent surface. The surface of water in made of hundreds of molecules that stick tightly together because of intermolecular forces and surface tension. Surface tension helps the bubble keep its shape. Soap molecules have two ends- one end that sticks to water, and the other that is repelled by water. Bubbles are round because they are ‘minimal surface structures’, which means that bubbles hold the least possible surface area they can.
Another type of layer is called the Terrestrial Fossils. In this layer there are several rock layers and fossils that form this whole layer. Some layers are called the Hermit Shale, Supai Group, Coconino Sandstone, and Surprise Canyon Formation. There are many types of fossils called leaves, Tracks, and Dragonflies.
Pop Rocks and soda have a very interesting chemical reaction with each other. Soda is a very pressurized drink that has carbon dioxide in it. Carbon dioxide is a pressurized chemical. When it is shaken, it fizzes, and causes pressure, and overflows releasing the carbon dioxide. It is similar to the Pop Rocks.
Evolution Domain: Eukarya Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Actinopterygii Order: Perciformes Family: Centrarchidae Genus: Micropterus Species: salmoides The normal weight of the largemouth is one kilogram. On the other hand, certain largemouth basses have gotten to be over ten kilograms in weight. The males usually does not get longer than 40 center meters, while the females can get to be 56 center meters long. The largemouth bass has a big, but somewhat slanted mouth.
Australian Giant Cuttlefish are in the following taxons, being ordered largest to smallest, Animalia, Mollusca, Cephalopoda, Sepioloida,Sepiidae,Sepia, lastly Apama. Their scientific name is, Sepia apama coming from their genus and species. Sepia apama is found about 100 meters under water around the southern coasts of Australia and Tanzania, in the seagrass beds of these coastal waters. Sepia apama typically eat small like crabs organisms called, crustaceans, and small fish. Sepia apama has predators in its own environment and hides from predators in an unusual way.
(a) General Description of the Person Squidward Tentacles is one of the main characters of the children television cartoons, SpongeBob SquarePants. He is a turquoise-colored, six-legged octopus living in a Moai in Bikini Bottom, the town the show is featuring. As a neighbor of the main character SpongeBob SquarePants and his friend Patrick, Squidward is featured in many of the episodes of the show. It is often seen that Squidward is the grumpy and hot-tempered one in the show, often keeping to himself by staying in his home as well as shutting down his neighbours who constantly play near his home. Despite both SpongeBob and Patrick claiming that Squidward is one of their good friends, the feeling is not mutual.
Native species are primarily found in undisturbed areas, but some can tolerate cultivation and a few species persist in deserts. Earthworms can be defined as terrestrial invertebrates that belong to the Order Oligochaeta, Class Chaetopoda, Phylum Annelida. Their characteristic features are that they are externally segmented with a corresponding internal segmentation, and usually have setae on all segments. They are hermaphrodite, and produce cocoons containing eggs which hatch into immature worms, that are similar to the adults except in size and development of their genital organs.
Marine organisms are animals, plants, and other living things that live in the ocean. A Marine biologist is a scientist who studies marine organisms and studies the bodies, behavior, and the history of marine organisms. They also study how marine organisms interact with each other and their environment. I have chosen to research about Marine biology because I would like to learn about sea life, the ocean, and its surrounding environment. To start off, a Marine biologist might study coral, crabs, fish, microscopic marine organisms, sea stars, seaweed, squid, or whales.
Within the first group, Haplochrominae, there are two subgroups. Both subgroups require different environments which is something that you should consider when setting up the tank. The first one, known as Haps, consists of open water and sand dwelling species. The second subgroup is known as mbuna, which means “rockdwellers”. The Mbuna fish are smaller, and both sexes are often brightly colored, though in some species the females may be brownish overall.
