Yesterday, the seventh grade went on a retreat at the St. Agnes church in Pinedale, a small part of Fresno. The weather could not be more perfect. It was cool and misty outside, and room temperature inside. The retreat was lead by Father Sergio, who had come down from Sacramento to give the seventh and eighth grade retreats here in Fresno. The opening remark was “You get out of this retreat what you put into it.” and this point was very true. To experience this retreat fully, one has to be energized and ready to think, as that will yield what the retreat was capable of.

My topic was the Paiute Indians, they lived in the southwestern Great Basin region. Paiute men went hunting out for food in groups. The Paiutes raised their own fruits and vegetables. Paiute groups got together in autumn for marriages and dances.

Aboriginal spirituality is a way of life it is understood and perceived as an external link to the universe that consists of intellect and meaning in life discovering the personal universe and ethical codes. For my ethnographic research, I had chosen to study my video gaming group. The idea of video gaming may be a habit for some people, but with the right research I found that it is not just a necessity, moreover it is enjoyable for all that play video games. Video gaming is not always for fun but for bringing my friends to together to play such games. This organization had found that video gaming is not just for fun, but for bringing others together while playing video games.

The Pawnee native americans have different roles or jobs in their tribe for men and women. The women are more fieldworkers and men do the more dangerous stuff. They both have stuff they do together too.

In his essay “On Dumpster Diving”, Lars Eighner provides information on what life is like to a homeless person, in this case himself. To that end, Eighner’s purpose does not address negative aspects of the same, rather he focuses on dumpster diving as a way of scavenging. He adopts a neutral and informative tone, however, towards the end the tone shifts to critical and pitiful and he, also, uses precise and scientific diction to make his essay more persuasive. With the use of scientific diction we can see that Eighner aims toward the educated audience who looks upon dumpster diving as disgusting. Nevertheless, Eighner uses the appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos to further explain his way of life as not a horrid one. Throughout the essay Eighner’s purpose is not to promote dumpster diving as a good way of life but to describe this life and show how a person lives from it as well as display dumpster diving as not a sickening thing.

Hunting to me is something special. Not only are you putting food on the table but you are making some very good memories. One of the best memories I have is my very first hunt, it was my dad and I we were in the blind for maybe thirty mintues and a little six point buck walks and looks around then goes back into the tall grass then my dad rattles the antlers and he comes out and boom that was the end of it. It was an amazing expericence and every since then I have never stopped hunting.

The progression of civilization since the 900’s leaves archaeologists and historians with questions such as, why did societies decide to domesticate crops or why did society abandon the hunter gather lifestyle? There are many hypothesis for the origins of agriculture like the social hypothesis that claims the success of food production allowed individuals to create surplus which gave them the ability to trade for valuable goods. This surplus also provided individuals with power and the leaders could acquire a labor force that would help them gather and create more surplus. The hunter gather lifestyle had its advantages as well. Hunter gathers had a seasonal routine and did not have to rely on someone to provide them with food. Though forming a community has its advantages one could argue that the life style of a hunter gather was more sufficient in terms of freedom and spiritual inquiry. As modern Americans think about how lucky we are in some situations and problems.Because for some people, there is or was not any such as luck or escape from the situations and problems like we have today. In the antebellum South and a prison camp Camp 14 in North Korea, their lives are different and hard. In addition, they all lived in the conditions that threaten, oppress, and brainwash them. For them, they don’t have any choice for education and freedom. They all lived in the life cycle that they never had choice to live themselves. There many way to compare and contrast about what is it like to be a slave in the antebellum South and a prisoner in Camp 14 North Korea.
