She even got to talk to kids at a middle school. Altogether she won 6 tejano music awards, including top female vocalist for the eighth time! She was even in the process of recording her first English language album that was expected to launch her into a crossover career but sadly Selena was murdered. Selena was murdered by her associate Yolanda Salvador on Friday, March 31st. Yolanda and Selena were good friends but Yolanda started taking money from Selena. Throughout her lifetime she explored the world of jazz, her identity, and how far the limits of her talent would take her. She exchanged her poor life, full of drugs and scandal for a life of performing the arts and showcasing her talents and abilities. Her incredible determination led her to do what she loved regardless of what anyone thought , which led to her inciting major social exchange; moving black suffering into white consciousness.

In the 90s her album named “Ven Conmigo” was the first Tejano album to reached gold selling over five hundred thousand copies. In, 1993 when went on to win a Grammy for “best Mexican American album”. The following year she released another album which was called “Amor Prohibido” that also went gold. With these achievements, this made Selena the first women to achieve huge success in Tejano and the first Tejano artist to win a Grammy award and have albums go gold. After achieving so much success in Tejano music Selena wanted to crossover to American music. She started recording the album “Dreaming of you” but sadly she did live to see her album success. On top of her career, she had respect, and was admired as a great role model by Mexican Americans. The “Queen of Tejano” music, her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine named her the “Top Latin Artist of the 90s” and then “Best Selling Latin Artist of the decade”. Selena ranks among the most influential Latin artists of all time and is credited for catapulting a music genre into the mainstream market. Even though Selena was murdered, she achieved many great things throughout her lifetime. She is remembered today for her wonderful accomplishments. Being a civil rights activist, social activist, and role model for women makes Maya Angelou a historical figure who has made a huge impact in American society and in American history.

(Sanders, 2015). Born in a family of 22 kids, Rudolph had an extremely unwealthy home and life. She had many diseases, but the one that left her disabled was polio. Eventually, she got over polio, and became the fastest woman in the world. Wilma Rudolph was an Afrian Amerian woman that persisted to overcome polio. She created courage and inspiration, and illuminated the world by becoming the fastest woman in the world.

Phyllis Wheatley’s success as the first African American published poet was what inspired generations to tell her story. It was her intellectual mind and point of view that made her different from others, both black and white. Phyllis’s story broke the barrier for all African American writers, and proved that no matter the gender or race, all human beings are capable of having an intelligent state of mind. Her arrival in America in 1761, at the age of eight is what started the story of a legend.
