CHAPTER 3 EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAMME 3.1. GENERAL The main objet of this experimenta is to compare the properties of concrete made with and without plastic aggregates, that is used as coarse aggregate in concrete mix. Major tests carried out on materials used for casting the concrete samples are discussed in this section, a brief description about mix deign and curing procedure used and at the end, the various tests conducted on the specimens are discussed. 3.2. MATERIALS USED 3.2.1.
Calcium test 5. Carbondioxide test 6. Chlorine test 3.3.1.1 Group A: Test on Concrete 1. Concrete Slump Test Concrete slump test is to ascertain the workability or consistency of concrete mix produced at the laboratory or the construction site during work progress. Most simple
The apparatus used is Compacting factor apparatus. Procedure to determine workability of fresh concrete by compacting factor test. i) The sample of concrete is placed in the upper hopper up to the brim. ii) The trap-door is opened so that the concrete falls into the lower hopper. iii) The trap-door of the lower hopper is opened and the concrete is allowed to fall into the cylinder.
The procedure of the concrete mix design was based on IS 456:2000. 3.2.2 PROCEDURE The procedure of casting, curing and testing of concrete cube is as follows:- The coarse and fine aggregate was sieved into desired sizes which are for 20mm, the aggregates that passed through 20mm sieve and retained at 10mm, for 10mm which passed through 10 mm sieve and retained at 5 mm sieve and lastly for fine aggregates, which passed through sieve of 5mm. the aggregate was sieved on the sieve shaker. After the coarse and fine aggregates have been sieved, the aggregates were
The mechanical properties of concrete determined in the laboratory include compression strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural tensile strength. The influence of partial replacement of fine aggregates by copper slag on the compressive strength, split tensile strength on cylinders and flexural strength of prisms has been evaluated. The test results showed that there is a possibility of use of copper slag as fine aggregate in
The Cement were tested for physical properties such as: Fineness test Standard consistency test Soundness test Setting time test Specific gravity test, 2. The Aggregates were tested for physical properties such as: Particle size analysis test Specific gravity test Water absorption test Abrasion value, 3. The Stone dust were tested for
8.3. This test can be performed horizontally or vertically. The results obtained from rebound hammer test are affected by smoothness of surface, age of specimen, moisture condition of concrete, carbonation of concrete surface
Study on Properties of Pervious Concrete 1Manoj Nallanathel, 2 Ramesh Bhaskar 1Asst. Professor- Civil Engineering, Saveetha School of Engineering, Saveetha University, Chennai. 2Professor and Head – Civil Engineering, Saveetha School of Engineering , Saveetha University, Chennai Abstract— Pervious concrete is that types of concrete which allow water to sip through them or in other word we can terms this concrete as a porous concrete which show high permeability and void contents as compared to normal concrete. The history of pervious concrete dates back to 1960. Pervious concrete has been used intensively in USA, Japan and some Western countries.
The counter-forts reduce bending and shearing stresses and are considered tension stiffeners. Counter-forts are most used in extra high walls of about 8 to 12 m to reduce bending moments. iii) Precast concrete gravity
