Selfless Reflection

Sometimes having a characteristic as simple as selflessness can save someone’s life. Many people are selfless but they don’t always know it right away. Parents teach their children growing up to care about others and how they feel. In school, teachers will always tell you to treat others how you want to be treated. You were also probably taught how to share, sharing shows that you aren’t selfish and want others to have fun with you. As a child you might have had a favorite toy and you were playing with that toy when someone came up and asked to play with you. The story of Farida Nekzad proves this point because her and many other reporters were attacked and harassed daily, to the point that they couldn’t even take the same route to work every day. People in Afghanistan didn’t want as controversy by ruling parties which led to others trying to take away her radio stations. Farida did not give up even though others wanted her to shut down the companies she worked with. Another example is Nelson Mandela, he fought against others because he believed that his rights mattered. He fought for black people to have the same rights as the white people, even though several other people didn’t agree with him on this topic, he continued to fight for equality. Even though people may agree with you on everything doesn’t mean that it isn’t the right thing to do. In addition to the other stories, the story “State championship vs. Runners Conscience” shows another great example of undertaking an incredible deed. The runner knew that in his mind the right thing to do was turn around and help the hurt runner.
