The United States of America was once the home of a variety of Native American cultures living in tribes, some as allies and others as enemies. Some settled in the Americas long ago, others were fairly recent. Among the more recent tribes to have formed were the Seminole Indians. Although their ancestors settled in the Americas some 12,000 years ago, they were never known as the Seminoles till after European explorers discovered America (Carlisle). The Seminoles were originally part of the Creek Indians. They were native to present-day Florida; a land they fought for, stubborn not to give in to the European conquistadors.
