Introduction Semiotic is defined as the study of signs and symbols as elements of communicative behavior. In this research, the study is based on the artifacts which is a poster and an advertisement, by the observance of the looks which are signs, the aim of them and their definition. The two images which are of the Summer at the Cape of Good Hope Afternoon tea on the step by Reinhardt in the year of 1882 and the advertisement for Frank Plainville’s Patent Cooking Stoves, are explained according to two levels of meanings which are Denotation and Connotation. According to the Ray, “Denotation refers to the literal meaning of a word” (poetic elements 1998), this has a dictionary definition, the descriptive thoughts, basicness and also Simplicity.
