I woke up earlier than usual due to I needed to spend two hours in commuting from Long Island to Bronx. Today was rainy day. I didn’t feel exciting for my first day of clinical due to I have gone to Social Adult Day Care Center many times due to my job. Today I went to JASA Mechler Hall Senior Center at 2158 Watson Ave, Bronx, NY10472 This place is very neat and clean. There have TV, kitchen, water machine and so on. Also the director, Ms. Larance is a very nice and heart-warming old lady. In addition, the senior people there are very nice too. There are welcome to talk. In this senior center, every senior need to pay five dollars each month for member fee. Also they need to pay $1.50 for lunch if they want to have lunch there. The lunch for today is oven fried chicken, collard Greens with smoke Turkey, rice and peas and milk. This senior center has AA support group on Wednesday every week. There are a lot of people attending this support group. One of this group members states, “I have drunk for 20 years so that I try to quit the alcohol.” Also, there is an insurance company, Metroplus Insurance that comes to help senior apply for medical insurance. It is very convenient for senior to have a medical insurance. Today I met a lady who complains about paying high copay and the premium for Medicare. I …show more content…
They provide a meeting place for seniors to socialize with friends, participate in arts and cultural programs, exercise and learn about healthy living, and celebrate life events. An old lady talked me that she meets, and talk with her friends in the morning every day. Also, she plays games with her friends twice per week. However, the inadequateness is not too much people to participate in the exercise. Also, most of seniors don’t want to speak out for their benefit; for example, taking away the coffee machine. I always speak out for my benefit so that they call me “big
One sweltering, stifling hot afternoon in July, I had the immense privilege of participating in Share-the-Lake Day as one of my first volunteer events being a member of the National Honor Society. Share-the-Lake Day is an annual sponsored event that offers nursing home inhabitants an outdoor lunch and a day out on the lake. I have always enjoyed spending time with elderly people because I find their wisdom and experience to be incredibly intriguing and fascinating. I loved listening to their stories of which they were extremely content to share. To see their eyes dance as they recounted a fond memory from their youth or witness their excitement when I mentioned various thoughts of mine that reminded them of a favorite family member or close

All the signs of an alcoholic is a cause by depending on alcohol. Health issues can present with a long term of alcohol abuse, liver disease, cardiovascular, pancreatitis, cancer, etc. Families and friends are affected as well, and advice is not considered or taken when in denial. Facing sobriety is not easy for most people to handle and I feel help is needed, and finding the proper treatment can be challenging for an alcoholic. Mrs. C. Torres lived a rough life and her addiction started at the age of 9 when her grandmother sends her to store to buy cigarettes and her daily drink, that was when she decided to have her first taste of alcohol.
Alcoholism is a chronic brain disease that affects all walks of life and does not have any bounders (Gossop, Stewart, & Marsden, 2008). I choose to attend an Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) meeting since this disease is prevalent among adolescents and adults. The meeting was held in the first-floor forum at Pilgrim Congressional Church in Queens New York. The goals of the AA meeting were stated explicitly by the leader conducting the meeting. The mission of the organization is to maintain sobriety by helping alcoholics achieve recovery.

Senior Home Care Assistance and Traveling When most people think about helping a senior with their transportation, they think about transportation services provided to seniors who live independently in their own home but need help getting to and from appointments, engagements, and the like. Access to this transportation ensures that seniors are able to maximize their freedom and maintain their links to the community. There are times, however, when traveling outside the home means more than going grocery shopping or to a doctor appointment. Seniors may want to travel longer-distances that require the use of a plane, train, or ship.
During the second week, I was feeling more comfortable and confident working closely with the other health care providers and residents in the facility. The most interesting and enjoyable part of my time at the facility was caring and assisting
In that time that the adult attends the program, they can experience activities inside/outside of the center (cooking, working, trips, apple picking, knitting, etc.), as well as attend academic classes to help develop
PATIENT CARE EXPERIENCE AND PARTNERING IN CARE Name of Student Institution Affiliation Patient care experience and Partnering in care Health care is continuously evolving with improvements in cures and medical equipments. Nevertheless, this does not transform into better health care delivery. To ensure proper and satisfactory services in the health care industry, it is important to focus on patient care experience and partner in care along with the families. We discuss this approach and its benefits, especially for the elderly like Mr. Taylor and how it helps them overcome the barriers they face for healthcare delivery.
“The Age of Dignity” is written by Al-Jen Poo, who is a director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) and co-director of the Caring across Generations campaign. The author discusses challenges faced by the elderly in society due to lack of supporting culture. She mentions, “By 2035, 11.5 million Americans will be over the age of eighty-five, more than double today’s 5 million, living longer than ever before.” It is necessary to value the care of old people so that people can age with dignity and security. To support the care of older adults, a culture needs to be built where elderly are respected in the society.
