Volunteerism, Service Learning and community service are all actions of a helping hand but they are certain elements that distinguish the three as well. Service-learning involves students in a community service activity and applies the experience to personal and academic development. Service learning is more of an educational approach. Connecting real life experience to class objectives. Volunteerism is an activity that involves doing something that you want that benefits the environment or the community without getting paid for it. Community service is doing something that benefits the community most of the time it’s a mandatory order for people to do from the court or school. It involves more structure and commitment compared to volunteerism
The value of service-learning is based on two main dimensions, which are normative and pedagogical effectiveness. The focus of this study is on the pedagogical effectiveness dimension and how service-learning provides unique experiences and situations where the students must adapt, which is the “essence of the impact or active ingredient” for learning in this format (8). Service-learning encourages students to obtain more responsibility and are given more opportunities to view education as an “evolving process” instead of an “end product” (8). Through reflection, students develop and challenge their skills of critical thinking and connects them to a common goal with the community that promotes their “affective, civic, social, and cognitive development” (8). Proponents say there are many advantages for this type of learning including: allowing students to become participants instead of passive “sponges,” and expanding the limits of the classroom to the outside world allowing students to participate in the community.
They have a unique opportunity to learn each time they participate in community service. They will feel the satisfaction they get from helping someone. They also learn that even one person can make a difference. They, in turn, understand that they can make a difference.
Community service: This type of restitution requires the juvenile offender to perform a certain number of hours of community service, such as picking up trash, painting over graffiti, or working in a community garden. Community service can be an effective way to teach young offenders the value of community involvement and civic responsibility. It can also be a way for them to directly make amends for the harm they have caused. However, community service may not be appropriate for all cases, especially those involving violent or serious
It also enables anybody to have that long-lasting and significant impact on society. Providing volunteer services gives me the opportunity to help someone in need while also advancing my life skills and wisdom. I like participating in community service because it is really fulfilling for anyone who gives back to their community. As I learn how it teaches me compassion and understanding, I also think it's crucial. This is a pillar that I consider to be of utmost importance.
The bulk of my service hours comes from my position as a CIT at Pilgrim Day Camp, which did not qualify as community service. I would like to emphasize that I was not given any money for my work at the camp. I would define community service as voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area. Being a CIT was completely voluntary, and my work at the camp benefitted the campers and their parents. By being a role model for young children, I positively impacted their lives and guided them through camp activities.
I had the opportunity to spend my service learning hours with an amazing young lady by the name of Paige. Paige is 25 years old and has a twin brother and a younger brother who she recently lost to suicide. It affected her deeply and she now battles depression. Paige was born premature, 3 months before her due date and weighed in at a whopping .??ounces. From the gate Paige had complications and had open heart surgery at ?
Requiring community service from students allows them to become better educated on their personal impacts on society. Community service is defined as voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area. The main goal of community service is to leave a positive impact on the world, making it a stronger and healthier place. A community service requirement to graduate from high school is beneficial because it can boost students' physical and mental health, be a positive way to gain exposure to new experiences, and be an overall good way to give back to the community.
They may think community service is more a punishment than a joy. Some might think it is best for someone who got in trouble. Many others might reserve community service for those who need to learn a lesson. I, however, view it as character building tool. It is always better to give back to your community, not just take from it.
When I hear the term community corrections, I think of the different kinds of probations, or community service. I see probation as a form of punishment and a means to help someone from facing a time in jail. I understand that we use probation to give someone an opportunity to reform, a second chance. However, community service is a lesser punishment and utilized by allowing an offender to give back to his community by doing good work, instead of spending time in jail or being on a long extensive probation.
Community service does not in any way help students it helps the person or thing receiving the service provide for free by our students. In the long run community service does not benefit the student. Also some may believe that forcing students to complete 75 hours of community service will give students a good experience. As a matter of fact, this in no way will be a good experience for students. They will be extremely stressed and anxious about graduating and about not being able to complete 75 hours of community service.
Community service to me is a way to give back to my community. It allows me to help others in whatever way I can and to meet new friendly people that live around me. It is rewarding to see the elderly smile when we go visit them at the nursing home, even if it is for brief periods of time or to see kittens and cats moving their tails from side to side and trying to play while I am feeding them or cleaning their cages. Volunteering around my community has given me the opportunity to get to know difficulties faced by people around me, to offer my knowledge to others, and to understand processes like adopting a new pet from the animal shelter. Volunteering gives me a chance to help and learn new things in the process.
Volunteering should be done intrinsically. Many students find community service so difficult, time consuming, and not enjoyable. Therefore, they tend to only complete the required hours without any essential effort. To call mandatory community service 'volunteering ' is a problem because then we begin to confuse the distinction between an activity that is willingly done and something that is obligatory and perhaps not always rewarding. Volunteering should be something you choose to do because you want to do it, not because somebody made you do it.
I. For your information, volunteering is where, we are willing to do something without get any force from anyone else. II. Nowadays, young generation has realized that, being volunteering in any type of event it can give them a lot of benefit. A. According to my survey, half of my classmate had participated in volunteering services.
And community services is much more, it is about taking small steps to bridge the gaps in society and create a caring community that takes care of one
Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person 's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good.
