"What island is it?" Rainsford said, "The old charts call it 'Ship-Trap Island," ' Whitney replied.
Richard Connell uses figurative language in “The Most Dangerous Game” to create a suspenseful and eerie mood. In the short story, the there are many uses of figurative language to give it an odd and creepy mood. For example, Whitney notices things while he is on the boat and explains to Rainsford,“There was no breeze. The sea was flat as a plate-glass window”(8). This simile is used to give an eerie feel for the novel.

Man against man, man against nature, man against himself are the three main conflicts that take place. For man against man Rainsford and General Zaroff are fighting each other in the hunting ‘game’. For man against nature Rainsford is fighting the sea once he hears the gunshots and is trying to get out of the water. For man against himself Rainsford is trying not to give up on himself and keep battling the general so he will not get killed.
Both stories , “The Most Dangerous Game” and “ Liberty”, share the conclusion to their conflict as both characters escape to their freedom. These characters must make personal sacrifices in order to obtain their own freedom. Richard Connell's short story is a telling of an escape to physical freedom whereas Julia Alvarez’s short story is more about an escape to abstract freedom. In “The Most Dangerous Game” the physical freedom is centered around Rainsford and him surviving the manhunt. Rainsford’s only way to do this is to not only get through Zaroff’s traps but to defeat him.

"Street from Kane's point of view It is completely deserted" (Foreman 326). Both stories show how isolated the settings are and that makes the story so intriguing.
The protagonist, Rainsford, struggles with nature when he falls into the ocean, himself when he must make a decision between being hunted and being tortured, and another man when he murders the malicious General Zaroff at the end of the story. It is inevitable to face conflicts in one’s life, though they may not be as dramatic as the problems that Rainsford deals with. High Noon is a story based on a chaotic day in the life of Will Kane, that involves many similar plots, settings, and patterns to “The Most Dangerous Game” where the main character Sanger Rainsford is also fighting for his life. Many may read both publishings and find no similarities, but when you start to take the stories apart the similarities are breathtaking. One of the most important similarities between the short stories, High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game”, are that of the plot. Both tales portray a very clear plot of the hunter becoming hunted.
