Severe punishments such as imprison are countered by some people because they believe that education and vocational training are more effective in reducing crime. While I agree that prisons are still in need, such methods mentioned above are proved to be wiser options.
On the one hand, to maintain a prison system the government has to invest huge amount of funding to construct infrastructures, cater prisoners’ daily meals and so on. Therefore, if the number of those who are arrested declines, the authorities can use the fund for other paramount concerns such as healthcare services. In addition, the purpose of punishing offenders is to ensure they will not commit any crimes in future. However, putting all kind of criminals in a prison may not accomplish the goal, but boost the possibility that prisoners will come under the negative peer pressure. Furthermore, many offenders find it difficult to rehabilitate into the society because of their prison records. Thus, social training is believed to benefit them better as they will absorb conventions and codes of conduct after the activities.

It will act as a deterrent to anyone who posses the idea to pose a threat to the society. In other words, it discourages delinquency posed by youngsters, and keeps dangerous types of criminals such as serial killers or murderers away from other residents.
In conclusion, vocational training and education should be put into consideration as a replacement for imprisoned punishment in tomorrow’s
Furthermore, this essay will also discuss the social implications of these prison population trends in relation to criminal justice polices, other social policies related to
What are your thoughts about the prison system? Today 's prisons are so bad that prisons in the United States hold 5 percent of the US population. Many people get sent to jail cause of the 3 law strike because a lot of minorities are caught with drugs. Plus the government is wasting 75 billion dollars on these facilities instead of using the money in a better way like making programs for the prisoners that need help with mental health or other stuff.
Mass incarceration is somewhat overlooked by those on the outside and those who are on the inside are considered forgotten about and viewed as less than. But the reality is, these high rates of imprisonment effect many areas of the community. Not to mention the social costs linked to the communities from which these immense population of felons come from. Pattillo, Weiman, & Western, 2006 analyzes how this disregarded population can sometimes increase criminal statistics after the prisoners return into the same community they left – which is another point rarely ever talked about. Other than the invisible consequences that mass incarceration provides, there are even more myriad studies offered surrounding this topic, identified in The Prison
With the conservative way of thinking, the government gives severe punishments to such offenders rather than focusing on liberal ways of solving the same issue by focusing on rehabilitation programs. It is quite evident that the severe punishment ideology has not been helping reduce such offenders, instead it just piles on the already overcrowded prisons. Thereby, lacking sanitation, failure of health care, spread of diseases, and increase in stress and violence. Hence, worsening the current conditions of the prisoners and the way criminals are
While at St. Gertrude, Rose would often wander away and have sexual encounters with men. Staff noticed her condition worsening during her time at the school. Dr Bertram S Brown, the former Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, documented that “a neurological disturbance or disease of some sort seemingly had overtaken her and it was becoming The United States incarcerates more people than any other developed nation. While the U.S. population has doubled since the 1950s, the population in state and federal prisons has swollen by over eight hundred percent during that time period. Several policies have resulted in the today’s mass incarnation rates, causing absurd financial strains to state and national budgets that deflect taxpayer money from much needed services, in order to pay for the housing of incarcerated individuals.
V. PRISON REFORMS The main part of this research paper is the reforms for the conditions of prison and make prison a better place for prisoner and make an alternative for incarceration. The prison Reform for prevention of overcrowding in prisons: A ten-point method for reducing the overcrowding in the prisons all over the world, these points are1: 1. Collect and use data to inform a rational, humane and cost-effective use of prison.
One possible alternative route to the prison system could be a boarding school type system where convicts are required to participate in an educational program that gives them the knowledge and ability to be released and given the needs to go make something better of the life they have been given. This system where they are required to participate in educational training would come along side a strict rule system that would encourage them to make the decision to choose something better. The debate is whether or not prison is beneficial or not for those who will be convicted, sentenced, and released. Whether we change the system or not there will always be crime and
In the past years people have debated if prisons really work and if they are effective. United State is second country right after Russian with the most amounts of prisoners but number is always growing so how prisons are effective. What should be change in prison so it would be more effective or even is there any way to make prison effective so the number of prisoners would go down not up all the time. Some people say that prisons are effective and that they function the best as they can but other point of view is that prisons should do better job and be more stick because they are not that much effective. If prisons work and are effective so why number is growing why every year there is more crimes and cases and more people is in the
However, crimes are committed whilst in prison, such as drugs and assaults. Some critics say the ‘three strikes and you are out’ law where repeat offenders get a longer sentence are wrong, as the third strike could be a lesser crime such as public disorder. Nevertheless, if just incapacitation and no rehabilitation some critics say will be costlier to society as they will go out and reoffend and, they are not employed and pay taxes. Rehabilitation is also a punishment which should improve the offender's behaviour and stop them committing crimes. Advocates of rehabilitation state prison does not work; however, critics of rehabilitation state prison does work as the criminal cannot commit a crime against the public while incarcerated (Cavadino, 2007 p 36/56).
In the criminal justice system, the corrections component is also responsible for the rehabilitation of the convicted individual. It is their duty to attempt to make the defendant a productive member of society once again. Based on the individual’s behavior while incarcerated, the court and corrections officials may decide to place them on parole, which ensures that the individual will comply with the rules of society once they are fully released from the system. The criminal justice system is an essential role in the organizational structure of not only the United States but also in countries around the world. If there were no criminal justice system to administer punishment, the world would be unstructured, disorganized, unjustified, cruel, and not to mention a chaotic place for it citizens.
The correctional system uses rehabilitation for offenders who were convicted on a juvenile level. Many inmates have serious mental illnesses, some in which require rehabilitation while incarcerated and some who only need rehabilitation to sustain. There is a great difference between punishment and restraint and rehabilitation is a restraint that always an offender to get better if mentally unstable rather than making them feel punished for an act that may not have been intentionally committed. People learn by example, whether it is a child or an adult, even those in prison. The main purpose for a prison is to restrain those who are violent from placing themselves at harm or others, while helping them change their behavior from negative thoughts and acts to positive and nonviolent so that they can return to the
One of the most controversial issues today for wise-men is how to eliminate a misdeed since sentencing criminals into the prison has no positive effect as a vast majority of hooligans tend to commit even more crimes afterwards. I am for the idea that each individual must be punished upon their behavior for that reason I believe with some practical steps it is possible to persuade trouble makers to stop damaging the environment and society. As after obtaining some carefree life in jail two third of bandits are willing to continue their illegal actions by pointing out that staying in penitentiary is more comfortable and peaceful than trying to endure real-life difficulties since they have neither communal expenses nor any responsibilities even
Theses individuals provide examples for others about the penalties of their actions or behaviors. By placing them through the justice system, it deters others. My opinion is that it is one of the greatest accomplishments of this form of social control because it provides a service to the masses. It reduces the crime rate providing a safer less chaotic society.
In this issue, I can not agree with the Supreme Court justices that argued to abolish mandatory life in prison for juveniles who commit murder. Yes, it is a cruel and overreacted punishment but, like the text was saying it is a failure to appreciate risks and consequences. At such a young age, teenagers shouldn’t be committing crimes that determine what the rest of their lives will be. I believe that in some cases the teenager committing the crime has a legitimate reason as to commit a murder even if it is wrong. They are probably hurt emotionally or they have been bullied for the last time so we can not really blame them, it is not all their fault.
There is a worldwide trend in the use of penal imprisonment for serious offenses as capital punishment has been renounced by an increasing number of countries. Harsh punishments include capital punishment, life imprisonment and long-term incarceration. These forms of punishments are usually used against serious crimes that are seen as unethical, such as murder, assault and robbery. Many people believe that harsher punishments are more effective as they deter would-be criminals and ensure justice is served. Opposition towards harsh punishments have argued that harsher punishments does not necessarily increase effectiveness because they do not have a deterrent effect, do not decrease recidivism rates and do not provide rehabilitation.
