Child sexual abuse and rape cases are on the rise in all over world, especially countries like South Africa, India and the US. However, a much more conservative country like Malaysia faces the same problems as well. According to the The Sun, reported on the 4th of April 2017, a total of 5,052 cases of sexual abuse against children were reported since 2012 with almost 80% of the offenders being close to the victim, including parents and guardians. Therefore, in my opinion, sex education in primary schools plays a major role to combat this issue. Sex education should be implemented since primary schools so that children have knowledge on the Sex education is important. Children need to know how babies are made. It was a recent incident, which caught the major news network such as CNN and BBC; 10 year old Indian rape victim gives births after being denied abortion. According to the news reports, the girl was raped repeatedly by her uncle and was denied abortion as it was too late and dangerous. However, she did not know she was pregnant even until delivery time. As Indira Jaising, a senior lawyer for India's Supreme Court and a leading voice on sexual assault and domestic violence states, “It is an issue of access to proper information about how to deal with this situation.” In my point of view, I completely agree with the…show more content…
Sex education is not just about having sex but also safety. Children should know the consequences of having sex, such as sexually transmitted disease (STD) and pregnancy. Sex and relationship education (SRE) should also be taught in primary schools. Children should know what makes a good friend, how to care for other people and to respect themselves. SRE teaches the important life skills -- the ability to say no and to ask for help. The perfect example of the 7 year old boy accused of raping a 6 year old girl shows that starting early will help to protect and keep the children
