A tarnish yellow creature stands in fear as it lingers behind bars viewing the shadow of a male figure. However, the acts of oppression can enrage the creature to break free. Feminist writer, Susan Glaspell, in the short story, Trifles, asserts how women are oppressed by male dominance in their marriages in the 1916. Glaspell’s purpose is to promote awareness of how much isolation and an abusive relationship can influence a woman’s insanity towards men. She adopts a calm yet caution tone in order to express the effect men have on women.
Harper Lee demonstrates the important theme “Power of words” in her novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Throughout this novel there is no one better than Atticus Finch at using the power of words. Atticus strongly uses his words during the trial to make Bob Ewell look bad. “ Will you write your name and show us?” ( Lee 236)
Obviously the queen didn’t believe what he was saying because she says “These words like daggers enter in mine ears.” (DOC C.). But in all of this Polonius was listening to the whole conversation so when Polonius thought that Hamlet was trying to hurt the queen he yelled something from the tapestry… Of course Hamlet automatically assumed that it was the king so he stabbed him… then he saw it was Polonius and he couldn’t believe it but he still tried to convince his mother.
While Colonel Joll is inflicting punishment on those who don’t give information about the barbarians, the citizens become fearful of an attack by the barbarians. This leads to the pointing of hands, specifically to the Magistrate. Coetzee uses Colonel Joll in Waiting for the Barbarians to represent the head of the empire. It is Joll’s violent quest for truth from townspeople, specifically the barbarian girl, which initiates the Magistrate’s journey to truth and desire to resist the empire. “[After the Magistrate] discovers his fear is justified, and thereafter, he is obsessed by the brutality of the Empire and the effects of torture, not only on the victims, but also on the torturers and on those who live in a society that allows torture” (Franklin 4).
In Haper Lee’s novel, To Kill A mockingbird, the trial tests Atticus’s courage as it tries to see if he will snap underpressure or raise to the occasion. Yet snapping Atticus’s courage would not be a fate for him. The damsel in distress dynamitc is never just a saving the girl from the bad guy. It’s to take a battle meant for someone else knowing if someone didn’t fight, niether would the victum; and Atticus fought for the children of the man who was attacking him. “So if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that’s something I’ll gladly take.
Jalous he was, and heeld hire narwe in cage, For she was wylde and yong, and he was old And demed hymself been lik a cokewold.” (3223-3226). The word “caged” illustrates the idea that Alisoun is an animal in need of being tamed.

Words are like dumbbells that we regularly carry on our backs and in our minds. I believe Toni Morrison is trying to remind people that words are incredibly powerful and oppressive language is the epitome of violence and ignorance because people do not realize the impact of invisible
Othello becomes violent, and begins to grow violent towards Desdemona. He threatens to “chop her into messes” (Shakespeare, 4.1.219), and while “striking her,” calls her the “devil” (Shakespeare, 2.1.268). Othello’s physical and mental abuse of Desdemona starkly contrasts the intense love he feels for her at the beginning of the play, and only begins after Iago makes him aware of the implications of his race upon his actions. The cunning manipulator makes Othello aware of his race, and incessantly reminds the general of his blackness
To Be or Not To Be Abusive In the story The Taming of the Shrew, there are many characters who mistreat each other. Even characters who end up marrying each other do not get along. Many spouses today still mistreat each other, Petruchio’s relationship with Katherine is an example of this.
My sister and I were coming up the stairs and my sister went to pet my dog but he bit her on the hand and would not let go so started to yell and kick my dog not to be mean but to get him off of my sister. That night I so vividly remember and in the Story it shows the same kind of love so I would say that the theme of the fictional story Rikki-tikki-tavi by Rudyard Kipling is that the love of your family can help you to be brave even when you are scared. Rikki Tikki is a very brave character in this story. He bit, indeed, but did not bite long enough, and he jumped clear of the whisking tail, leaving Nagaina torn and angry.(para.29)This shows that because the family loved him he saved them by fighting Nag. This character trait demonstrates the thesis because he is loved so know is kind of paying them back.

Literary Essay- Taming of the Shrew There is a popular romantic saying that claims opposites attract, meaning that people who are very different will fall in love. However, that is not often the case in real life, nor is it as true as it may seem in Shakespeare ’s play The Taming of the Shrew. The main couple, Katherina and Petruchio, experience countless conflicts in the beginning in the play.
