Shanghai port is developing rapidly since ten years ago and nowadays it becomes the top container port in the world. It is also known as the world’s largest port and its volume still can be increased in the future. Shanghai port is focusing on core international container handling and transhipment business. In fact, it can gain success because of the high operating efficiency and superior service quality in their supply chains. Supply chain performance can help to get more competitive advantages. One of the improvement in supply chain is the widely use of export FCL and export LCL. LCL (Less than Container Load), which consolidate the goods and other importers’ goods together from the same loading port to the …show more content…

To differentiate the cargo, Shanghai port introduces two colours which are green and red. Green colour represents the normal cargos (90% of the goods) and red colour represents the high risk cargos.(10% of the goods) Green channel is easier to access and complete it around 1 to 3 days. For example, Yangshan port (Offshore of Shanghai port) had introduced a 13 double-decker conveyors which can handle two 20 or 40 containers at the same time. It had improved the volume of cargos in transportation. For Shanghai port, some projects were implemented to enhance the container handling capacity. First, “Intelligent container production system” focused on the handling efficiency of the terminal by introducing the fully-automated arrangement of the container carriers, intelligent in loading and unloading of containers. Next, “Remote-control monitoring and fault alarm system” was implemented at the same time. The equipment maintenance response time had been cut down and improved the security of the container production through data interception technology and equipment software. After implementing all of these projects, the average berthing time at Shanghai port decreased by 17.38% and the failure rate fall down from 6% to
