Jakarta’s sun was still blazing hot even in September month; could no longer stand the heat, I decided to take refuge in one of the air conditioner cafes that spread around the city like mushrooms. Moreover, I could use some pick me up. So venturing in into one of this coffee place called Anomali Coffee, which just from a glance look over the place as I walked in, I know that coffee isn’t taken lightly here. I mean, just look at the number of local coffee beans that they offered on display, I believes they have collected all sorts of coffees from all over Indonesia here. There are coffee beans from Sumatra, Aceh, Java, Bali, Flores, and Papua, but there’s one that caught my eyes namely Kopi Luwak. First, because it has the priciest tag there (IDR110,000 or around USD7.50), and secondly, the …show more content…
Only if I inhaled deeply enough and put my nose really close to the cup, then I think I could smell a faint coffee fragrant rousing from it. Erna said that this was because of the syphon method I’ve chosen. The aero press brewing method on the other hand, could extract more aromas from the coffee beans. Nodding my head, I went on to take my first sip. Now for the taste; it has that right amount of acidity that I like in my coffee, and to my surprise, aside from its lightness it also has a pleasant fruity taste on it. The fruitiness as they told me was because the civet that they harvested the coffee beans from was a wild one, unlike most other civet that has been caged and fed by the farmers. Then as the black liquid reach the end of my taste buds, it’s getting smokier and richer in taste. One sip quickly followed by another and some more. Didn’t take long for me to finish the cup really, but every now and then, between the sip, I take a pause from the indulgence and tried to prolong the

Growing up in a Mexican household, the food we ate always had a spice to it. Whether the spice was on the side or already prepared in the food, my food always had a spice to it. My grandma’s favorite signature spice was her Pico De Gallo. Pico de Gallo also called salsa Fresca, is made from chopped tomato, onion, cilantro, fresh Serrano’s (jalapeños or habaneros are used as alternatives), salt, and key lime juice. At first I did not like Pico de Gallo because I couldn’t bear how spicy it was.
Soup Joumou I woke up to a text message from my mother with precise instructions on where to purchase all the groceries for this year’s Soup Joumou. When I arrived at my local supermarket, I took out my phone to look at the grocery list that my mother sent me, I walked up and down the various aisles, and was at the super market for an exhaustingly long two hours. I collected 2 cloves of garlic, 2 scallions who had already been sliced. I also got dried thyme, one medium sliced shallot, 1 scotch bonnet chili, already stemmed and seeded, I got lime juice, of course I wouldn’t hear the end of it If I forgot the salt and pepper.
Senior year is winding down and three things that has been on my mind lately, one of which is UChicago. As I am artsy fartsy and I have written a crap poem to showcase my love for UChicago. Will anyone read this? Probably not, but I will share anyway and probably change some of the wording and add it to my quality blog (Grapesofcontentment.tumblr.com; high quality) University of Chicago To my dearest love, I pardon that my deep affections towards you are unrequited, And that you have many fine suitors that beseech you as well, As my love for you is immortal; an inevitable consequence of Your profoundness, your passion, your splendor, and intellect.
As a Cuban-born woman, my expected role in society is clearly defined; my thoughts and personality have a mold into which they must fit. However, a month before my fifth birthday my family made the decision to move to the United States and in doing so liberated me from these expectations and gave me the freedom to explore my own interests and beliefs. Ten years later, they were making preparations for my Quinciañera. Due to my Cuban heritage, my coming of age was set to be commemorated by a very long and very expensive night of food, dance, and family. For the same cost as the down payment on a relatively small house, I would be given the opportunity to put on a show in a dress that restricted my airways and provide food and drink for about

My personal Artifact is a baseball my son and I caught at the Giants game. It is white, round, has red stitches, and is smooth when new, but when we caught it it was beat up and the blue writing on it was smeared. A baseball is small and light in size. It can be thrown at speeds up to 100 MPH, or hit at at speeds higher than 100MPH, so when playing the game or watching you should be paying attention at all times. A baseball is made of a rubber or cork center, wrapped in yarn very tight, covered by white leather with red stitching around the out side, making it a very hard ball.

In Drinking Coffee Elsewhere, the major theme that develops is a loss of innocence. This loss of innocence is a common theme in many of the stories including Brownies, Our Lady of Peace, Speaking in Tongues, and Geese. In the first story Brownies, there is a troop of black girl scouts and a troop of white girl scouts going camping. The black girl scouts have always looked at the white girls as different, and were calling them names. “They smell like Chihuahuas.”
